At the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT, we believe passionately in EVERY child’s entitlement to an excellent education, so they enjoy school, enjoy learning and make very good progress. We “have created a culture where high standards and a passion for improving outcomes for pupils permeate every aspect of the course” (Outstanding Ofsted 2015).
Our school-based course provides engaging, interactive training that is an ideal blend of theory, research and practice; all our students are full members of the University of Leicester, graduating with a masters level PGCE. The quality of our programmes is recognised in the most recent Good Teacher Training Guide where the SCITT is in the top five Initial Teacher Training (ITT) providers nationally and is the top primary provider in the East Midlands.
The quality of support in school placements is central to success in ITT. The SCITT is proud that ALL of the top four of Leicestershire’s primary schools (The Real Schools Guide 2019) are our partners, offering placements and employing many SCITT trained teachers.
A key strength of our programme is the personalisation and support across all elements of the training so that each individual trainee is able to achieve their full potential. This is reflected in the SCITT outcomes where the percentage of trainees successfully gaining QTS and employment are at the top of the DfE tables for providers in Leicestershire Initial teacher training performance profiles. Over 97% of our trainees have been graded as “Good” or “Outstanding” against the Teachers’ Standards at the end of training.
The primary (5-11yr) course, leads to QTS across the full (3-11yr) primary age range, with specialist training and placements in KS1 and KS2; it is carefully designed so all trainees enter their NQT year confident and secure in their subject knowledge across both key stages. Graduates of this course often rapidly gain leadership positions in schools, with some choosing to teach in the Foundation Stage as their career progresses.
Choice of course in ITT is an important decision! The best way to get to know if our course is the right one for you is to come and meet us. Sign up on our website for a free information event or call us on 0116 254 3187 or firstname.lastname@example.org for advice, support or further information.
“The SCITT believed in me from day one, before I even believed in myself”
