The PGCE programme is taught in partnership with secondary schools/colleges. It will prepare you for entry to the teaching profession through developing your expertise in teaching pupils aged eleven to sixteen with post-sixteen enhancement.
You will work alongside experienced teachers, developing class management skills, observing and supporting pupils’ development, becoming familiar with the school’s assessment of the curriculum and acquiring practical experience of inclusive teaching and learning within the school environment. You will develop research-informed understanding of curriculum design and have an excellent understanding of safeguarding practice.
You will be supported to develop your own geographical skills and knowledge alongside teaching strategies, enabling you to become an excellent practitioner. Your subject knowledge workshops will support you to confidently develop teaching strategies covering all aspects of Geography. For example ArcGIS training run by Esri UK , landforms and processes, place and identity, globalisation and development, weather and climate, fieldwork and the changing geography curriculum and current issues relating to teaching the subject.
Emphasis is placed on strategies such as learning through enquiry and fieldwork, to ensure you are well prepared to successfully teach and motivate pupils in the contemporary classroom.
