Primary School Direct Tuition Fee funded training places are available, providing a strong focus on practical, classroom-based experience. For Tuition Fee places (course code 2BKL), you can apply for a student loan or self-fund.
The Sussex Teacher Training Partnership is led by experienced, practising teachers, and is tailored towards local training needs.
Trainees will be based in one school from the consortium – the placement school. All trainees attend central training on a weekly basis which is held within different partnership schools.
The training programme generally lasts for one academic year full-time, running from September to July. The programme provides practical, hands-on teacher training, taught by experienced, practising teachers.
You can train at any suitable partnership school or academy across Sussex, Brighton & Hove and Kent. There are a limited number of places available for school placements in the surrounding areas.
We will be based in one school for the majority of the training year. A second placement is offered in two adjacent key stages in two contrasting settings.
Lead partnership training schools currently include:
Robsack Wood Primary Academy
Iford and Kingston Church of England Primary School
Manor Primary School
Newick Teaching School
St Mark’s Teaching School
The Haven Voluntary Aided C E Methodist Primary School
Blackthorns Community Primary Academy
Before starting your training you will need:
GCSE minimum grade C (new grade 4) in English, maths and science or equivalent.
2:2 or above bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
It is helpful to gain some classroom-based experience in a primary school before starting the course. For example, this could be as a Teaching Assistant or volunteering in class for a few hours each week. By gaining this experience you will be better prepared to start the programme. Importantly it will inform you whether teaching is the right career choice for you.
Fees and financial support
The course fees for UK students in 2021 to 2022 are £7,950.
