About the course
The Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education (PGDipEd) will enable you to teach in state-maintained and special schools in England and Wales. Our specialist programme offers high quality training and support, which will prepare you to teach in the 3-11 age range and is run in close partnership with schools. Once you have secured a place on this Primary PGDipEd course, you will opt to specialise either as General Primary teacher (5-11 years) or as an Early Years teacher (3-7 years). Rated outstanding by Ofsted in 2013, this is a course which offers high quality training and support as well as excellent employment prospects.
Like a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education is a teacher training programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) but it also offers the equivalent of 120 credits and these may be used towards our MA in Teaching Studies. Additionally, the School also offers a number of specialised Professional Development programmes which will enable you to further develop your career.
School placements
School-based experiences are a central part of these programmes, with an opportunity for you to experience a range of ages within different schools.

All applicants to the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education must hold a degree from a UK Higher Education Institution. Fees and financial support
When you apply for this course, it is important that you also take into account living costs and should ensure that you will have sufficient funds to finance the full duration of your studies. Our PGDipEd programmes include a significant amount of time spent on placements in a variety of schools at different locations, and so when budgeting to study you should also allow for travel to and from placements, as well as textbooks, printing, photocopying and stationery that you may need.
