Course summary

“The quality of training across the partnership is outstanding. A fully comprehensive training programme is in place and ensures complete coverage of the primary curriculum.” Ofsted 2017

Trainees will work alongside others on the 5-11 pathway to ensure that they are also gaining an overview of primary education to recognise their role within the bigger picture of a child’s journey in school. Placements will provide experiences in EYFS and Key Stage 1.

School based training alongside training sessions and high quality tutoring and mentoring will provide opportunities for trainees to plan, teach and manage learning for children aged 3-7 years. Trainees will therefore have the ability to assess and progress learning, build professional relationships and maintain high quality learning environments.

Specialist sessions will be provided by an expert subject lead in Early Years supported by other relevant personnel to ensure that the trainees have a broad view of the EYFS provision. Additional sessions will allow trainees to experience specialist knowledge at a greater depth and couple it with tasks and experiences in their host schools

“Laura, Tom and Cath inspired us throughout the programme, kept us going when things got hard and gave us new and innovative ideas to try in the classroom”- ILTT Trainee

Awarding of PGCE is with our partners Nottingham Trent University. This brings 60 masters credits. Sessions on campus give you academic underpinning to your teaching practice, with two assignments that weave into your experience in school.

Overall, trainees from 21/22 rated our programme as 4.6 out of 5.

School placements

“The highly practical, school-based nature of the training which is valued by the trainees because it means they learn from the very best teachers’ practice and are given the time to apply their learning, academic research and training in their own classroom situations.” Ofsted 2017

Your time in school is the largest part of the training and that in which you apply learning from the other strands. School placements are not just about being in class – you will be part of the school team, taking a full part in the life of the school and making a real difference to the experiences and outcomes for the children in your care.

Our EYFS course will require you working in two contrasting schools across our local partnership. We call these placements your host and your alternative school. You will complete your placement at your host school in the Autumn and Summer term, whilst your alternative placement will be completed in the Spring term. With each placement, you will change year group to cover these 3 age phases: EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2.

In each placement you will work in partnership with a Class Mentor, to the advantage of the children, planning and reviewing together. Your class mentor will give you on-going advice and support as well as modelling good practice.

Your professional progress will be formally supported by an experienced teacher in school – your Learning Coach, who will observe and meet with you regularly.

Your Professional Tutor will work closely with your host school and make visits during the placements.

Interview process

“Leaders are constantly evaluating the recruitment and selection processes to make sure they attract high-quality candidates with the skills, the moral purpose and the ‘staying power’ to be a successful teacher” – Ofsted 2017

Selecting the right people to train with us in our schools is of utmost importance. Our interviews take place within our schools and we aim to make you feel relaxed enough to show us who you really are. The interview includes includes:

  • an opportunity to find out more about us
  • a formal interview in which we find out more about you and establish whether you are suitable to train with us and in our schools;
  • A lesson that you will pre-plan and deliver to a small group of children (Full details are provided prior to the interview)
  • Safeguarding & identity checks.

Applying to our course

International candidates

You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:

  • are an Irish citizen
  • have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
  • have indefinite leave to remain in the UK

If you do not already have the right to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for fee-paying courses (those that you have to pay for) is the Student visa.

To apply for a Student visa, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.

Sponsorship is not available for this course.

If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.

Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

Find out more about training to teach in England.

International qualifications

If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.

You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:

  • guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
  • a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)

Training with disabilities and other needs

We are an equal opportunities provider and provide support for all our students with their learning requirements.

Our partner universities provide support for trainees with different needs and learning requirements.

This can be discussed at the screening and interview process.
