PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

Course summary
As a Teach North Art & Design trainee, you will encourage students to think critically, to appreciate and to see things creatively. You will deliver lessons that equip students with the skill of creativity so they can develop their ability to utilise skills and techniques to communicate visual ideas.
Alongside your students, you will explore a wide range of mediums which may include drawing, painting, printing, photography, pottery or sculpture. Observational skills will also be developed, not only through drawing, but also as your students scrutinise the works of key artists, and draw inspiration from their work.
Your classroom will be brimming with exciting opportunities where students can develop their resilience, confidence, self-expression and sense of achievement.
On completion of this programme, you will be awarded a PGCE with QTS and 80 Masters credits in Education from Sheffield Hallam University.

School placements
During the programme, you will complete two placements in our alliance schools and academies. The location of these placements is decided by the Teach North team who will consider your home location, mode of transport and the capacity of the school or academy.

Entry requirements
Qualifications needed
An undergraduate degree at class 2:2 or above, or equivalent.
Your degree subject should be in Art and design or a similar subject. Otherwise you’ll need to prove your subject knowledge in some other way.
Grade 4 (C) or above in English and maths, or equivalent qualification.
We will not consider candidates with pending GCSEs.
We will not consider candidates who need to take a GCSE equivalency test.

Other requirements
Successful candidates must obtain clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) regarding suitability to work with children. Admission is also dependent on a satisfactory medical examination.

If you meet our entry requirements, you will be invited to a remote interview to complete our selection process.
International candidates
You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
- are an Irish citizen
- have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
- have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
If you do not already have the right to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for fee-paying courses (those that you have to pay for) is the Student visa.
To apply for a Student visa, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.
Sponsorship is not available for this course.
