Qualified teacher status (QTS) allows you to teach in state schools in England and may also allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach in the EU and EEA, though this could change after 2020.

About the course
Training starts in early September through to June. Carefully designed, delivered by experienced teachers to ensure it reflect the needs of the modern classroom and enables you to start your teaching career equipped with the best combination of skills and knowledge. A crucial aspect of this programme is the innovative 9 day Induction period preparing you to spend the first few vital days in mid-September in your first placement school.
Additionally, our programme offers:
Bespoke arrangements made after selection day, to discuss further your strengths and areas requiring further development and may set you tasks and a reading list to enable you to develop relevant knowledge and skills before the course starts.
A minimum of 6 subject knowledge sessions with a teacher who delivers Outstanding lessons enabling you to develop your pedagogical skills

Full cohort sessions are based at one of our training centres at Farlingaye High School or Kesgrave High School.
School Placements
You will spend 80% of the course in school. Every Thursday you will receive general professional and subject knowledge sessions.
You will start undertaking structured observations of teachers followed by team teaching, part lesson then full lesson teaching.
Assessment
You will be continually assessed against the Teachers’ Standards and the ITT core content through:
observation of your lessons
assessment tasks
your reflections linking theory from workshops/reading to your practice in the classroom
There are three formal reviews of progress throughout your training, with the final assessment to gain Qualified Teacher Status taking place in the summer term.
Course workload
Written submissions are evenly spread throughout the programme. The wellbeing of our trainees is of the utmost importance to us, we provide various options to support you.
School placements
Your placements will be carefully selected to ensure that they give excellent but contrasting experiences whilst also considering a reasonable travelling distance from your home.
If you wish to nominate a school for one of your placements, we will be pleased to talk to the Headteacher about our programme, but we can never guarantee a request for a specific placement will be fulfilled.
We know many of our Professional Tutors and School Mentors well and try to match our trainees with their mentor to build that strong professional relationship.
Each full-time trainee will be placed in the same school for term 1 and 3, term 2 will be in a different school providing a contrasting school environment. Our schools comprise predominantly of comprehensive schools but include a Church of England school.
Each of our training programmes is for a specified age range. We strive to provide experiences at special schools, pupil referral units and alternative educational settings.
Schools play such an important part in the programme, and that’s why we can provide you with an outstanding foundation on which to build your future career. You will have an expert school-based Mentor and a designated Senior Link (Professional Tutor) in each placement school and they will be trained by, and work closely with the SCITT team to ensure that you have great input and support which allows you to develop rapidly.

Interview process
Our recruitment and selection process is designed to allow us to make the right decisions for you as an applicant and for our placement schools.
Once we receive your application, it will be considered by a subject specialist and SCITT lead. If successful to the next stage, you will be invited to a Selection & Recruitment day.
The day will consist of:
Welcome by a member of the SCITT team
Document check & hand in of your pre completed subject audit form
Tour of the school in which the interview takes place
A 20 minute student task (a small number of pupils who will ask you arrange of pre-prepared questions)
Formal Interview
Written Task (to display knowledge & understanding of your subject)
English & Maths diagnostic activities

Successful candidates will be offered a place within days. An offer letter will be issued and may detail some conditions, e.g. passing your degree/ undertaking SKE
All trainees offered a place must:
Pass a Fitness to Teach medical assessment;
Undergo an enhanced DBS check to verify their suitability to work with young people.
Covid 19 restrictions may alter the interview process, if so, you will be notified of arrangements.
Fees
The fees above do NOT include PGCE . If you wish to apply for a full time QTS + PGCE programme this is possible. The QTS + PGCE only full time programme will be £9250 in total ( correct as at 01/10/2020)
If you are unsure at the time of applying, we recommend you apply for both programmes with us, and we will discuss these options more fully with you at the interview stage.

Qualifications
ESSENTIAL:
Minimum 2:2 honours degree from a UK university or recognised international equivalent (applicants with non-UK degrees must ensure that they have obtained the relevant equivalency statement from NARIC)
GCSE English and Maths, grade C/4 or above or recognised equivalent (evidence of equivalence will be required)
DESIRABLE
2:1 or above in a relevant degree
If teaching a subject different to your degree, an A level at grade C or above in that subject is preferable
Please note: To prove that your qualifications are equivalent and you must include a NARIC statement with your application verifying this.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
The Disclosure and Barring Service has taken the place of the CRB check and it is a condition of all ITT courses that trainees must have a satisfactory enhanced DBS check before commencing training. Arrangements for completing DBS check applications will be explained as part of the selection and induction process.

EAST SCITT is a newly accredited School Centred Initial Teacher Training Provider offering primary and secondary school-based initial teacher training awarding Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), with the additional option of gaining Post-Graduate Certificate in Education.
EAST SCITT has been formed and is run by a team of expert current professionals in the world of initial teacher training and teaching. Our Teaching School Alliances, Farlingaye & Kesgrave TSA and Springfield TSA both have a long-term proven track record of delivering high quality training and have the skills and expertise required to facilitate on all aspects of our programmes. Springfield Junior School (Ofsted rating Outstanding), belongs to Children’s Endeavour Trust, currently a group of eight community schools in Suffolk.
