PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) allows you to
teach in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It’s also recognised internationally.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.
- Course length
- 1 year
- Date you can apply from
- 8 October 2019
- Date course starts
- September 2020
About the course
This full or part time course leads to QTS. It can be 11-16 or 11-18. A PGCE (60 Master's credits), which includes KS5 is optional and can be added at a small additional cost. The course runs in Colchester and the surrounding area. Trainees have a mentor throughout the course and are very well supported in a long established training programme.
The interview will involve a presentation, interview, subject based written task and numeracy task and completion of a subject audit.
How school placements work
There are two school placements throughout the year to enable trainees to access a range of schools and courses. Visits to special schools and primary schools are also included. Longer placements in special schools may be possible. NETT arranges placements in most cases although applicants can also do this.
Trainees are paid by the school on the unqualified teacher's pay scale.
Financial support isn’t available for this course because it comes with a salary.
If you choose a course without a salary, you may be eligible for financial support while you study, including bursaries, scholarships and loans.
Applicants require a GCSE grade 4/C or appropriate equivalence in English, Maths and Science. A degree is also required. It is expected that an applicant's degree will be related to the subject they wish to teach, although often we can train with a good A level and a SKE course. Please ask.
