PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
On the course you will be in school four days a week and follow a central training programme on Fridays, which augments your subject knowledge for teaching and your general professional development.
During the course you will receive strong support from The Cambridge Partnership (TCP) in the form of a Subject Specialist Tutor (secondary). Well-being of trainees is crucial and we have developed a strong mechanism to support trainees in this respect. A qualified counsellor is available at no cost to you.
Over the course you will produce an e-portfolio of evidence, monitored by TCP and your school(s). You will also have assignments to complete and your teaching will be observed regularly, with feedback to ensure strong classroom practice.
In November 2017, TCP was graded “good” by Ofsted and we shall be pleased if you view our final report on the OfSTED website.

About the training provider
Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust is a family of schools centred in Cambridgeshire. CMAT schools share a vision of education at the heart of local communities. As a Trust we truly value the success of every child and we place the sharing of excellent education practice at the core of this value. We are committed to improving the quality of education and life in the county of Cambridgeshire, and its immediate surroundings. With this aim, the Trust operates from hubs in Cambridge and Peterborough and its staff, pupils and families are spread across the entire area from rural village to inner city estate. Training the next generation of outstanding teachers is a vital part of our vision for the future. CMAT has a long history of delivering professional training at all levels of a teacher’s career. Our philosophy is to encourage creativity and evaluation to continually push the boundaries of learning.
International candidates
You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
- are an Irish citizen
- have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
- have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
If you do not already have the right to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for fee-paying courses (those that you have to pay for) is the Student visa.
To apply for a Student visa, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.
Sponsorship is not available for this course.
If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.
Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

International qualifications
If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.
You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:
- guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
- a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)
Training with disabilities and other needs
CMAT and The Cambridge Partnership are committed to equal opportunities for all. We aim to ensure that no present or prospective trainee or tutor receives less favourable treatment than another on grounds of any condition or status not directly affecting study or work. As part of our equal opportunities policy, CMAT and the Cambridge Partnership are committed to improving the support of students with a disability.
