PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
Completion of this course will provide you with a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
This course provides you with placements in two schools.
One day a week will be spent at The University of Bedfordshire in Bedford where you will complete your professional studies.
You will have a mentor in school and a mentor at university.
School placements
Your first two weeks are spent on the University campus.
Thereafter, most of your training weeks involve 4 days a week in your placement school teaching, planning and observing and one day a week at university in Bedford to access their professional studies programme.
Secondary candidates will need to organise their own primary placement experience school as part of this course.
This course is an A-B-A model.
Entry requirements
Qualifications needed
A degree in the subject area you want to teach or a degree with a substantial portion relevant to National Curriculum programmes
GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent)
Recent experience in a school is highly desirable
Personal qualities
You will need to be prepared to work hard and be flexible and resilient.
Other requirements
You will need to complete a DBS check and will need to be in good general health.
This course requires a commitment to travel to Bedford.

Interview process
You will interview twice.
Once with The University of Bedfordshire and again on a separate occasion with the Professional Tutor at Cromwell Community College.
The University of Bedfordshire will provide details about their interview process once shortlisted.
For your interview at Cromwell you will be asked to complete the following tasks:
- Share your views about why you’d like to be a teacher as a written task.
- Complete a face to face interview with a panel.
- Complete a classroom based exercise, where you will be observed interacting with children or young people or teaching a portion of a lesson.
