This course is a School Direct Salaried route that lead to the award of Qualified Teacher Status. When completing your training with Connect Teaching Partnership, you will have access to:

The majority of your training will take place within the Connect Schools Academy Trust schools. The training will be personalised to the individual’s professional needs but will include training in the following areas: teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment, working with parents and the community. All training is closely aligned to support the trainee achieve the Teachers’ Standards. The Primary School Direct programme runs for one year. You will be assessed on your practical teaching and your progress in achieving the standards for Qualified Teacher Status by gathering evidence in the form of a portfolio. Successful completion will lead to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Trainees will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced and outstanding teachers. Support and mentorship will be given by senior leaders within the Trust.
Although candidates will have a base school, there will be lots of opportunities for cross-school training and will include teaching experience within another school in the Trust.
By studying with Connect Teaching Partnership through this route, you will become a confident, competent and effective teacher with the skills and knowledge to teach within the primary phase.
All placements will be in Good and Outstanding schools within the Connect Teaching Partnership. You will gain experience in Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two (leading to a 5-11 qualification). Trainees will be placed in a base school for the majority of their training with opportunities to gain additional experience in other schools within the partnership. All schools are located within walking distance from a train station and have some parking available.
In the placement school, you will be allocated an experienced mentor who will support you on a day-to-day basis, together with a School Direct Tutor, who will be a member of the partnership’s senior leadership. This will ensure support and consistency across your training year. There are quality assurance procedures in place to ensure the experiences you receive will be of the highest standard.
A key part of our salaried programme is that you will spend the majority of your training year in schools, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Bespoke, theory-based learning is also incorporated into the candidate’s weekly timetable to ensure pedagogical knowledge is embedded.
The school experience will include induction, observation of outstanding practice, peer and collaborative teaching, experience in appropriate key stages and subject expertise. this will be combined with: training in the national priorities; assessment and reporting opportunities; PPA (non-contact) time; knowledge of the wider life of the school; preparation for the NQT year and training in the professional and personal requirements of a teacher.
Candidates are expected to have good attendance, demonstrate full commitment and to immerse themselves in school life fully during their training.
An undergraduate degree at class 2:2 or above, or equivalent.
Grade 4 (C) or above in English, maths and science, or equivalent qualification.
We’ll consider candidates with pending GCSEs.
We’ll consider candidates who need to take a GCSE equivalency test in science.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will need to be completed prior to being accepted onto the course. You will be asked at interview if you wish to declare anything that will show on your DBS.
You will also be asked if you have lived, worked or travelled outside of the UK for three months or more in the last five years. Answering yes to this question will require some additional checks to be carried out, but it certainly nothing that should stop you from applying.
The Primary Salaried QTS programme is an employment-based route available to high-quality graduates with at least three years postgraduate work experience. Candidates accepted onto the course will be paid an unqualified teacher’s salary for the duration of their training year.

About the training provider
Connect Teaching Partnership works with the University of Greenwich as the registered training provider for the School Direct Programme. The university has a long history of teacher training, going back over 100 years at the Avery Hill Campus. Employment rates are consistently above national and London averages. Training is delivered by highly effective teachers from both the Trust and also from the university.
The training programme will be personalised to the individual’s professional needs but will include training on the following areas: teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment, working with parents and the community. All training is closely aligned to support the trainee achieve the Teachers’ Standards.
The schools in our partnership are all graded Good or Outstanding and offer trainees the chance to teach in a range of contrasting schools and locations. Both our School Direct courses are tailored to meet the needs of the trainee and the training and expertise available in our organisation allows trainees to develop their teaching to a high level.
The Connect Teaching Partnership and the University of Greenwich work together to interview applicants. In order for your application to be considered you should complete a full application via UCAS and consider your personal statement as being an important part of this process. If you are shortlisted, you will be asked to complete written tasks and a formal interview.

applicant meets the academic entry criteria
applicant has written a strong personal statement
applicant has been given a strong reference. This should be an academic
reference if the applicant has been in education within the last five years.
You’ll need the right to work in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)
