PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
- Apply creative and technical skills in developing computer programs to solve problems.
- Gain an understanding of current and emerging technologies, and how they work for example ‘mobile phone apps’.
- Develop understanding of binary logic and how a computer actually works.
School placements
Students undertake their placement at one school, there are opportunities to visit other schools and also there is a week in a Primary school .
Age range - 11- 16 years.

Entry requirements
Qualifications needed
You must have a degree; legislation does not specify that teachers must have a degree in a particular subject or discipline. However, it is expected that you are able to demonstrate the subject knowledge required in readiness to train to teach your specialist subject. (A first degree comprises 300 HE credit points of which 60 must be at level 6 of the QCF).
To have taken part in a rigorous selection process designed to assess readiness to train to teach including as a minimum both an interview and audit of your subject knowledge

About the accredited body
Wolverhampton University have been training Education professionals for over 100 years. Teaching training is a significant aspect of our core business and accounts for just under 50% of all activity within the Institute. They provide a provide a sustainable Professional Development model that enhances teacher effectiveness.
The University works with over 400 schools, private providers and colleagues in genuine partnership.
Interview process
There is an interview at the school as well as a short teaching activity for which you will have planning time. You will teach a group of students and be observed. There will also be a subject interview and a written task.
Tutors from Wolverhampton University will also be part of the interview process.
Visits prior to interview are encouraged please contact the school directly to arrange this.
Training with disabilities and other needs
As a Partnership we are committed to inclusion for all and have experienced staff who ensure all needs can be supported. All schools in the Partnership have policies and procedures in place to support trainees with all disabilities or needs and all environments are accessible for all. We do regular and specific risk assessments when needed and seek advice if needed as well.
We have worked previously with a student on work experience who had cerebral Palsy she used the lift in school, we provided her with space in the classrooms where she was comfortable to work and ensured where support was needed it was available. Her placement was very successful.
