The Physical Education course is school-led and runs in partnership with a Master’s level, professional training programme, facilitated by the University of Hertfordshire (UH). This leads to the PGCE qualification and Qualified Teacher Status.
Student Teachers are instructed in the requirements for teaching Physical Education within the 11-16 age range and, where appropriate, post-16 experience is available.
In joining The Challoner’s High Bucks Hub (‘The Bucks Hub’) you will join our wider network of schools as part of our affiliation with Danes Educational Trust: The Partnership. We work to develop valued staff through our local, national and global affiliations.
Our School Direct (SD) course is aligned with the Core Content Framework (CCF) for Initial Teacher Training. By the end of your training, you will be qualified to:
- share your passion for Physical Education
- inspire students’ creativity and support them with their aspirations
- develop stimulating resources which can be implemented through innovative teaching approaches
- teach Physical Education within the curriculum framework which meets exam requirements
Specialist mentors will support you to provide a structured process for improving your teaching practice. Strategies include support with in-class observations, help with critiquing teaching approaches, and advice on the best ways to support pupils with their learning and wellbeing. You will be taught how to deconstruct teaching approaches and plan and prepare well for lessons. You will also receive structured feedback so you can become a successful practitioner.
University-led sessions run every week and include lectures, seminars and workshops where active participation is encouraged. You will benefit from the knowledge and expertise of a team of practising teachers, who lead key sessions and support with school-based training.
No in-school assessments are set. Instead, you are assessed on your developing practice through observed lessons and structured feedback. The university sets two formal assignment modules across the year, which are essential components of the PGCE, contribute credits towards a Master’s accredited degree, and are centred on the following topics:
- Subject and Curriculum Knowledge
- Secondary Professional Learning and Development
Train with The Bucks Hub and you will be part of a team who has considerable experience training the very best teachers.
Your talent will be nurtured in an environment committed to diversity and inclusion and you will flourish in a school where you are known, valued and supported.
