It may also allow you to teach in the EU and EEA, though this could change after 2020.

If you’re planning to teach overseas, you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.

About the course

You will be trained in a highly supportive and aspirational environment through which you will be able to develop your knowledge and skills to be a creative and inspiring teacher that will ensure learning takes place.

Most of the training will be delivered by outstanding teachers in the schools within the alliance. Our mentors are outstanding teachers but they are required to undertake a rigorous training programme to develop their mentoring.

You will be in school for most of your training and will visit other schools for in-depth training that will ensure you are able to fulfil the QTS requirements.

During the course you will keep evidence of your learning matched against the Teacher Standards. You will be assigned an in-school based mentor as well as a Professional Tutor who will work with you to monitor your progress. At the end of the course you will achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Interview process

All Trainees must have GCSE Grade C or above (or an equivalency test) in English, Maths and Science before training begins.

All trainees are expected to have a degree at a grade 2:2 or above.

Applicants must have at least 2 years work experience by the time they commence the course and at least 10 days experience in a school.

All trainees must pass their skills test before they commence the course. It is advised that applicants book and pass their skills test as soon as possible and come to interview with the skills tests already achieved.

Applications are selected for interview through a thorough review of the qualifications and stated experience required. The personal statement will be scrutinised for spelling, punctuation and grammar as well as communicating clearly why you want to train to be a teacher. You will be advised to include all your experience and skills that you have to offer that show that you have the potential to teach.

How school placements work

Students will be in schools who are part of the Davies Lane Teaching School Alliance. Our schools are located in the boroughs of Waltham Forest and Newham.

You will be trained in the primary age groups of 5 to 11 or key stage 1 and key stage 2. Students will become part of the school community in which they will be placed and have access to the school facilities.

Training takes place in partnership with the ELAScitt. They are based at Tollgate Primary School which can be found on Barclay Road, London E13 8SA. The school is located in the London borough of Newham.

Placements will take place in two schools and across both key stages with the majority of time spent in the placement school.

As you will be employed by the school there will be no fees, but you will have a contract with the school, which you must fulfil to complete the course.

Trainees are paid on the unqualified teacher pay scales.
