PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
This course will provide you with opportunities to teach Key stages three and four and includes the experience teaching of GCSE Art in our new Arts building which consists of 2 classrooms, an exhibition space, kiln and preparation room. The department is supported by an Art technician.
You will be attached to a tutor group and have the opportunity to develop pastoral skills. You will have the opportunity to participate in the wide extra-curricular life of the school. The school has a varied CPD programme which will be accessible to you. You will have a mentor who you will meet with weekly to aid your development.
Four days will be spent in school, with one day (Friday) spent at the University of Bedfordshire with subject specific tutors.
School placements
You will spend the first and third term at Goldington Academy.
You will have an additional placement during the Spring term, in an alternative school, which will be local to your home (wherever possible).

Goldington Academy is an ambitious and aspirational school where student success is at the heart of all decision making.
The school’s accommodation and facilities are excellent following a recent DfE funded refurbishment. All of our classrooms are equipped with interactive technologies. There are extensive specialist facilities for Art, Computer Science, Design Technology, Drama, Cooking and Nutrition, Music and Science. Sports facilities include a gymnasium, a sports hall and an all-weather mutli-use games.
At key stage 3 all students study English, Maths, Science, Humanties, French, Art, DT, Computing, PE, Drama and Music. Year 9 students also follow a personalised learning programme allowing them to study areas of special interest.
Students start GCSE courses in Year 10 spending 18 periods studying compulsory subjects – English Language and Literature, Maths, History/Geography, Science and PE. Six periods are spent studying optional subjects - Art, Computer Science, Creative I Media, DT, Drama, Hospitality and Catering, French, Music, PE, RS and Spanish and Travel and Tourism.
Goldington Academy have experience of successfully working with trainee teachers. Where positions arise, we have a strong record in regards to the employment of our trainee teachers as members of staff on completion of the course.
Interview process
You will be invited to visit Goldington Academy where you will meet with the ITT coordinator. During this visit you will tour the school and meet with members of your department and your potential mentor. You will observe a variety of lessons and have the opportunity to work with a small group of students. You will then attend an interview at the University of Bedfordshire where you will participate in group and written tasks, alongside a formal interview.
