PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
Sport is a specialism subject for Perins School and the results speak for themselves.
In recent years we have boasted six international athletes among our students with two in rugby, one in cricket, one in hockey, one in basketball and one in table tennis.
The sports facilities at Perins are excellent are our enthusiastic PE team provide numerous sporting clubs and competitive fixtures for all students. Perins is please to offer the Key Stage 4 courses in GCSE Physical Education, GCSE Dance and BTEC Sport.
School placements
Secondary trainees will become qualified to each 11-16 year olds over the course of 3 placements:
Formative placement (Sep - Dec)
First assessed placement (Jan - Feb)
Second assessed placement ( Feb - June)
Placements are usually taken in 2 different Schools.
There are 3 pieces of academic work to do, 2 essays and a presentation.
Entry requirements
Qualifications needed
You need to have a relevant degree (or equivalent qualification) to train on on our postgraduate ITT course.
You may be asked to complete a fully funded SKE prior to starting with your training.
You will also need GCSEs (C grade or above) in English and Maths regardless of any higher level qualifications.
The Department for Education has withdrawn the requirement for ITE applicants to complete literacy and numeracy Skills Tests.
During the selection process and as part of your training, you will be required to demonstrate competency in Fundamental skills in English and mathematics.
Personal qualities
We are looking for highly motivated and resilient trainees to work well with others and under guidance. You will need to be open-minded, hardworking and have a sense of humour. This is a challenging yet rewarding job.
Other requirements
All trainees will complete DBS and other suitabilty checks carried out by the University of Winchester.

About the accredited body
The University of Winchester has a long-established record of excellent initial teacher training. Successful completion of our training course leads to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the award of PGCE. As part of the course, you will also be able to gain credits towards a Master’s level accreditation.

Interview process
The interview day involves:
A taught session (30 mins) planned by the applicant with guidance from the relevant department.
A formal interview which usually involves the ITECo, Department Head and a representative from the University of Winchester.
A 5 min presentation.
A literacy and numeracy test.
