QTS
Qualified teacher status (QTS) allows you to teach in state schools in England and may also allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach in the EU and EEA, though this could change after 2020.
If you’re planning to teach overseas, you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.

About the course
On this programme students apply for a training vacancy at a school and work for a salary as an unqualified teacher - you will ‘train on the job’. This route is designed for people who have gained three years’ work experience (not necessarily in education).
It is important to note that this programme leads to a QTS only, although students can apply to study for a Top-Up PGCE towards the end of the programme. Prospective students apply directly via UCAS to the school or alliance and are recruited to a vacancy at that alliance.
School placements
You will spend the majority of time in your main placement school but will also be required to carry out a 2nd placement at another school which is usually for a period of 6 weeks.
Your 2nd placement will provide you with an excellent opportunity to compare and contrast different approaches to all aspects of teaching.
Interview process
Candidates whose application form shows that they meet our short-listing criteria will be invited to an Interview Day.
The selection process will usually involve:
- A classroom-based task
- Time with staff/departments
- A formal interview
- A written task
We recommend that you aim to gain some experience in a classroom prior to interview.
Salary
Your salary will be unqualified teachers pay scale point 1
There are no fees for this course.
Financial support
Financial support isn’t available for this course because it comes with a salary.
If you choose a course without a salary, you may be eligible for financial support while you study, including bursaries, scholarships and loans.
