Course summary
Our primary general course is designed and taught by a dedicated team of practising teachers. Each is based on developing each trainee with a bespoke plan and experience designed to make you the best teacher you can be. All programmes are 5-11 with a placemnet in each of key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. You will be placed in two schools for your assessed placement from across our partnership schools in West Yorkshire. The normal pattern of the year is to be in your placement school for four days per week and to attend our training programme one day per week. We have very experienced mentors who are there to guide and support trainees throughout their training year and you will have the opportunity to visit a variety of schools on training days to broaden your experience and understanding. We provide all our trainees with their own laptop during the programme and have a dedicated website for trainee support and resources. All trainees are registered with the University of Huddersfield for a PGCE. We are looking for candidates with a degree in any subject for primary. The programme is assessed via continual assessment for the QTS element and two Masters assignments for the PGCE element.
School placements
Our programme places you in two schools from within the partnership across the year and you will work across two key stages; key stage 1 (5-7) and 2 (7-11) with an EYFS enhancement. Our partners are based in Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & Leeds. Partnering with local schools in the area, we feel fully encompasses the geographical, social and economic diversity of West Yorkshire, offering our alliance breadth and depth. A key strength of our partnership is the diversity of schools; your two placement schools will be contrasting and the range of children and teachers you will work with will come from across the entire alliance ensuring you are trained to teach in all schools from the very start of your career.

Primary trainees need to be knowledgeable about the National Curriculum and have excellent communications skills for both the application and interview process. We want you to be passionate about teaching and working with children.

Interview process
Interviews take place throughout the year, they include an interview with a selected panel of staff, a short activity designed for a group of pupils. These will take place in person where possible and online where not.
International candidates
You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
- are an Irish citizen
- have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
- have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
If you do not already have the right to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for fee-paying courses (those that you have to pay for) is the Student visa.
To apply for a Student visa, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.
Sponsorship is not available for this course.
If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.
Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.
