PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.

Course summary
You will be trained in a highly supportive and aspirational environment and will develop the rigour, professional knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for the delivery of creative, purposeful and challenging teaching and learning.
Our mentors are outstanding and experienced teachers, and are required to undertake a rigorous training programme to develop their skills including coaching, effective classroom observation and feedback skills. You will be in the safest of hands as a trainee within the Redhill SCITT team. Our in-house training is delivered by leading professionals with many years of experience of both teaching and training teachers.
A list of our partner schools is available on our websites: www.redhillteachertraining.org.uk and www.inspiringleadersscitt.com and we have the capacity to train over a number of subjects across these schools. Whilst we cannot guarantee a placement at a particular school, prior to interview, we will take into account individual requests and location and travel will always be factored in to our placements.
This course leads to the Postgraduate Certificate in Education or the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education. Successful completion of the PGCE at level 7 gives you up to 60 Masters level credits.
School placements
Most of your training will take place within the environment of one of our partner schools. Training is delivered by expert and outstanding practitioners, enhanced by attendance at our training sessions and academic sessions at NTU. You will have a main placement school to which you will be assigned from August. You will then undertake a six week alternative placement in the first half of the spring term. You will gain experience at KS3 and 4 with the potential of experience in KS5 wherever possible.
We will carefully consider the right school for your placement, taking into account your location, your qualifications and your previous experience. We will always try to involve your prospective placement school in your interview where practical. During your training you will have the full support of the SCITT team.

Fees and financial support
Trainees are charged £9,250 in tuition fees by Inspiring Leaders, the standard rate for postgraduate courses. Those from the UK or EU are eligible for student loans to cover tuition fees and maintenance.

About the training provider
Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training (ILTT), is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rated School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider, formed by Teaching School Hubs and Trusts across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
These Secondary courses are led by Redhill Teaching Hub with partners at Diverse Academies Trust, Djanogly Learning Trust, Discovery Trust and Potentia Teaching School Hub. Our thriving and ambitious schools are based in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire and the wide range of settings and contexts enables us to provide a diverse range of experiences for all our trainees.
Our programme provides all trainees with a blend of school experience alongside an innovative and inspiring taught programme, leading to the award of QTS and a PGCE, with our partners Nottingham Trent University.
We are especially interested in applications to Maths, English, Science, Languages and Humanities as there is a general shortage of teachers in these subjects locally.
Our teacher training offers trainees an exceptional level of support, tailored to individual needs and delivered by trained mentors and coaches. Trainees have the opportunity to learn from classroom teachers and practitioners who are experts in their field. A commitment to train future teachers and leaders sits at the heart of our core purpose and ethos as a Trust.
Overall, trainees from 21/22 rated our programme as 4.6 out of 5.

Interview process
“Leaders are constantly evaluating the recruitment and selection processes to make sure they attract high-quality candidates with the skills, the moral purpose and the ‘staying power’ to be a successful teacher” – Ofsted 2017
Selecting the right people to train with us in our schools is of utmost importance. Our interviews take place within our schools and we aim to make you feel relaxed enough to show us who you really are.
The interview includes:
- an opportunity to find out more about us
- a formal interview in which we find out more about you and establish whether you are suitable to train with us and in our schools;
- A lesson that you will pre-plan and deliver to a small group of children (Full details are provided prior to the interview)
- Safeguarding & identity checks.
International candidates
You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
- are an Irish citizen
- have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
- have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
If you do not already have the right to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for fee-paying courses (those that you have to pay for) is the Student visa.
To apply for a Student visa, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.
Sponsorship is not available for this course.
If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.
Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

International qualifications
If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.
You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:
- guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
- a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)
