Course summary

We believe that teaching is an exciting, challenging and rewarding profession. We pride ourselves on having a proven track record over the past 15 years in training excellent practitioners and supporting them in gaining positions within our partnership schools. Forest Independent Primary Collegiate, the accredited provider, has written this highly comprehensive and bespoke programme. It reflects the exceptional standards in Havering schools and our understanding of what makes an excellent teacher. We are committed to offering high quality training for local candidates with the aim of securing the beginning of a successful career in a Havering school. This includes subject knowledge and leadership training, and opportunities to take part in research and to work collaboratively with colleagues in other schools. Teacher Training applications are scutinized with trainees placed in the partnership schools. These are excellent mainstream schools that are committed to supporting the process of the training in Havering. Our programme features an intensive week with a focus on SEND.

School placements

This one-year primary course is based in one school for the majority of the year with a contrast setting placement. Candidates learn the art of teaching in the classroom for four days each week, guided by their mentors. Each trainee is allocated a professional tutor who visits and supports the trainee on a regular basis. Host schools are able to offer insights into their successful practices and induct trainees in line with the best of teaching through current research. Centre-based training is every Friday. The programme requires a full time commitment of 5 days per week from September to July and trainees are expected to participate fully in the everyday life of the schools in which they train.

About the training provider

Clockhouse Primary leads a partnership of primary schools mainly within the London Borough of Havering. The schools within the partnership have a diverse clientele with a rising number of EAL children. All of the schools are inclusive and as such have children with different medical, learning , emotional and social needs. The schools have a friendly ethos with mentors supporting trainees to be successful in their chosen career. The schools offer insight into delivering the curriculum in place in a variety of way thus giving the trainees in place a wider knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning. Support is given by the lead school and by mentors in the partnership schools. All of the trainees who completed their training with us over the past years have been successful being graded as outstanding / good and in gaining employment; many within Havering or nearby LAs.

Interview process

The selection process consists of an interview in one of our partnership schools, which will be carried out by a member of staff from FIPC and/or a member of staff from the partnership school. Applicants will be invited to visit a suitable school for observation with children.

International candidates

You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:

  • are an Irish citizen
  • have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
  • have indefinite leave to remain in the UK

If you do not already have the right to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for fee-paying courses (those that you have to pay for) is the Student visa.

To apply for a Student visa, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.

Sponsorship is not available for this course.

If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.

Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

International qualifications

If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.

You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:

  • guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
  • a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)

Training with disabilities and other needs

As a partnership we try our utmost to accommodate and support trainees with disabilities and other needs. This is done on an individual basis with needs being discussed and assessed.
