The PGCE prepares you to teach across the 11–19 age range, helping you develop the professional skills and attitudes to teach in schools and colleges, as part of both A Level and GCSE courses. You would attend a range of lectures and workshops over one academic year with other secondary teacher trainees, including those relating to teaching and assessing, classroom management, child protection.
At school, through an initial programme of observations, you will become familiar with the workings of the school and department (student groups, pastoral systems, staffing, curriculum, resources, facilities, methods of teaching, lesson planning, and assessment).
You will be treated like a member of staff and with your school mentors, you will feel supported as you become ready to teach. Our mentors are excellent, experienced teachers who undertake rigorous training to develop their mentoring skills.
We are a partnership of 3 secondary schools; Marling School, Stroud, Stroud High School, Stroud and Cheltenham Bournside School. The training year involves two school placements and one day a week training with Gitep in Cheltenham.
An undergraduate degree at class 2:2 or above, or equivalent.
Your degree subject should be in modern languages or a similar subject. Otherwise you’ll need to prove your subject knowledge in some other way.
Grade 4 (C) or above in English and maths, or equivalent qualification.
We’ll consider candidates with pending GCSEs.
We’ll consider candidates who need to take a GCSE equivalency test in English or maths.
Fees and financial support
The course fees for UK students in 2023 to 2024 are £9,250.

You will attend one interview at Marling School with the Subject Lead and a representative from Gitep.
