PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
North Manchester ITT Partnership works with mainly 3 Manchester Secondary Schools. Mathematics provides you with an outstanding teaching and learning experience in KS3 and KS4 across the ability and 11- 16 age range. You will have also experience in KS2, Post 16 and Special Education.
You will have teaching experience in your subject specialism in 2 complementary placements, demonstrating how your curriculum and assessment processes work.
In some cases, if you wish to have Physics as part of your teaching time table, this will be possible.
We aim to give you 140 days in school.
School placements
We are partnered with 3 main Secondary schools based in Manchester. We also work with associate schools in the North West area.
You will have to complete 2 main teaching placements.
Overall we give you 140 days in school.
Interview process
Your interview process will consist of the following:
- usually a morning with North Manchester ITT Partnership
- time for questions and answers
- a tour of North Manchester ITT Partnership
- for 2020 - we will include a literacy and numeracy test
- 20 minute teaching task
- Subject knowledge tasks
- school scenarios
- formal interview
We aim to give you the result of the interview within 24 hours.

Financial support
You could be eligible for either:
- a scholarship of £26,000
- a bursary of £24,000
To qualify for a scholarship you’ll need a degree of 2:1 or above in Mathematics or a related subject. For a bursary you’ll need a 2:2 or above in any subject.
You can’t claim both a bursary and a scholarship - you can only claim one.

Qualifications
English Language and Mathematics GCSE level 4/grade C equivalent or above.
A level in the specialist subject - minimum grade C
First degree
Subject enhancement may be a requirement.
About the training provider
North Manchester ITT Partnership has been training teachers since 2014. We have achieved “Good” at Ofsted across all areas in December 2017 who commented particularly on our personalised provision and “wrap around care”.
North Manchester ITT Partnership achieved 100% retention in 2019-20 and most of its trainees are now teaching in the Manchester area.
North Manchester ITT Partnership works with two main Greater Manchester High Schools and at present eight Primary Schools.

- continued subject knowledge enhancement
