A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.

It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.

Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course

North Manchester ITT Partnership works mainly 2 Greater Manchester Secondary Schools. Art and Design provides you with an outstanding teaching and learning experience in KS3 and KS4 across the ability and 11- 16 age range. You will have also experience in KS2, Post 16 and Special Education (if it safe to do so)

You will have teaching experience in your subject specialism in 2 complementary placements, demonstrating how your curriculum and assessment processes work (if it safe to do so)

We aim to give you 135 days in school.

Interview process

Your interview process will consist of the following:

  • usually a morning with North Manchester ITT Partnership *formal interview
  • 20 minute teaching task
  • subject knowledge tasks
  • for 2021-22 - we will include a literacy and numeracy audit
  • school scenarios
  • time for questions and answers
  • short presentation by the candidate
  • a tour of North Manchester ITT Partnership training rooms and a partner school.

You will be interviewed by a member(s) of the NMITTP and a subject specialist.

We aim to give you the result of the interview within 24 hours.

How school placements work

We are partnered with 2 main Secondary schools based in Greater Manchester. We also work with other associate schools in the North West area.

If it safe to do so you will complete 2 main teaching placements during the year. You will be based in one school for the majority of they year, with a second school experience taking place usually in term 2 and lasting for approx. 6 weeks.

Trainees are based in a school Monday - Thursday from the start of the academic year. Every Friday trainees will return to the SCITT training rooms for professional study sessions. These sessions are planned to develop subject knowledge and pedagogy. Trainees will also be completing a PGCert(SCITT) with Manchester Metropolitan University. Two assignments will be completed during they year giving the trainee 60 credits at Masters level.

You will have experience of teaching 11-16 years with the opportunity to observe post 16 teaching and A level classes( if it is safe). There may also be the opportunity to observe teaching in an Alternative Provision setting.

Overall we give you 135 days in school.

The course fees for UK students in 2021 to 2022 are £9,000

Requirements

Qualifications

English Language and Mathematics GCSE level 4/grade C equivalent or above.

First degree - Bachelors with honors 2:2 or higher (we would consider a 3rd in some cases) in a related subject to the one being applied for

If the degree is not specific we would need to see an - A level in the specialist subject being applied for - minimum grade C

Subject enhancement may be a requirement.

Personal qualities

We are looking for for dynamic, enthusiastic and resilient candidates who are looking to make a difference to the learning of children in the north Manchester area.

An ability to work with pupils of all ages and abilities is crucial.

School experience would be an advantage but we do appreciate that this may not possible due to Covid 19.

About the training provider

North Manchester ITT Partnership has been training teachers since 2014. We have achieved “Good” at Ofsted across all areas in December 2017 who commented particularly on our personalised provision and “wrap around care”.

North Manchester ITT Partnership achieved 100% retention in 2019-20 and most of its trainees are now teaching in the Manchester area.

North Manchester ITT Partnership works with two main Greater Manchester High Schools and at present eight Primary Schools.

  • continued subject knowledge enhancement
  • continued Newly Qualified Teacher support and training
