PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
The Training Programme consists of two modules: Teachers as Researchers and Reflective Practitioners and the Principles and Practice of Effective Assessment. Trainees divide their time between school placements, central training and academic research through Buckinghamshire New University, leading to a PGCE and 60 masters credits.
In term 1 trainees will commence on a 20% teaching timetable starting with starters, plenaries and small groups. Trainees will steadily increase their teaching time on a bespoke basis. Trainees will be mentored by a class teacher throughout with feedback given on every lesson in the early stages. In terms 5 and 6 trainees will be teaching a minimum of a 70% timetable, with a maximum teaching allocation of 80%. Throughout the year time is given for planning, preparation, assessment and observing other colleagues throughout the school.
Central training takes place once a week in school training rooms within the Consortium. This training is carried out by Local Authority and SCITT Advisers, Headteachers/Leading Practitioners and Buckinghamshire New University lecturers. Training covers subject knowledge and generic elements of teaching such as Behaviour Management, Inclusion and Assessment.
Trainees will be assessed for QTS passing with Outstanding, Good etc. This will be assessed through teaching observations and a portfolio of evidence related to the Teaching Standards.
The PG Cert is assessed pass/fail through the three modules:
Module 1 - Planning for Progression (Terms 1 & 2)
Individual presentation 30%
Assignment - pupil development study 3000 words 70%
Module 2 - Comparative Study (Terms 3 & 4)
Assignment - comparative study 4000 words 100%
Module 3 - Understanding the Professional Role (Terms 5 & 6)
Group Presentation 30%
Assignment - Reflective account and portfolio of evidence 70%
Interviews will take place within a consortium school by a panel of Headteachers and will involve a small child initiated activity, a presentation and a written task.
Applicants selected for interview will be required to complete the Borough Equal Opportunities and Disclosure proforma.
Applicants successful following interview will be required to undergo an on line Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before going into school.
How school placements work
Trainees are based in a Lead School for four days a week for Autumn and Summer terms. There is also a six week second school placement in a contrasting environment and further placements in a special school, early years setting, phonics and early maths placement and observing leading practice throughout the Spring term.
Trainees on a salaried programme are on a minimum of Unqualified 1.
Financial support isn’t available for this course because it comes with a salary.
If you choose a course without a salary, you may be eligible for financial support while you study, including bursaries, scholarships and loans.
It is preferred that applicants have a degree level of 2:1 or above however a lower class degree (2:2)will be considered if other qualifications or experience are strong and relevant.
Applicants are required to have English and Maths GCSE grade C or above or equivalency before applying. A pending Science GCSE grade C or above/equivalency will be considered prior to the start of the course.

We are looking for at least two weeks work experience/observations in an early years setting, primary school or other organisation working with young people eg. youth centre, scout/guide group, church or voluntary organisation.
Please tell us about any other attributes, knowledge or transferable skills you possess related to working with young people or within education.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with children, has a thirst for learning and is showing an insight into current educational practices.
Any evidence of any organisational and communication skills as well as a commitment to the programme.
About the training provider
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) has been a successful Initial Teacher Training provider of salaried route for both secondary and primary trainees since 2002.
RBWM SCITT work in partnership with Bucks New University (BNU) based in High Wycombe. Trainees graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Educational Practice (PG Cert) this is 60 Masters credits equivalent to a third of a Masters.
The RBWM SCITT works with the Windsor Teaching Alliance of First Schools, Middle Schools and Upper Schools.
We also have a history of working with Independent Schools and welcome applications from this sector. There are also places available to work with Schools in other neighbouring Local Authorities.
Since 2009 100% of trainees have gained QTS and 100% have gained employment. In 2017-2018 100% of trainees gained employment in The Royal Borough or surrounding areas.

Training was inspected by Ofsted in May 2013 and was graded Good in all areas:
‘The Partnership has a clear vision for excellence that translates as a strong desire to develop excellent teachers and future leaders for its own schools’ (Ofsted May 2013) ‘The excellent knowledge local authority tutors have about local schools, and the very close relationship between the Local Authority and schools in the Partnership, which provide a very strong context for training teachers’ (Ofsted May 2013).

Having worked with dyslexic trainees in the past we are able to provide for their individual needs following appropriate assessments.
