The Training Programme consists of three modules; Planning for Progression, Comparative Study and Understanding the Professional Role. Trainees divide their time between school placements and central training.
Trainees are employed by the schools and can teach up to a 90% timetable. However, schools will ensure support and mentorship is clearly in place to help build up to this.
Central training takes place once a week in school training rooms throughout the Alliance. This training is carried out by Local Authority and SCITT Advisers, Headteachers/Leading Practitioners and Bucks New University lecturers. Training covers subject knowledge and generic elements of teaching such as Behaviour Management, Inclusion and Assessment.
Trainees will be assessed for QTS passing with Outstanding, Good etc. This will be assessed through teaching observations and a portfolio of evidence related to the Teaching Standards.
The PG Cert is assessed pass/fail through the three modules:
Module 1 - Planning for Progression (Terms 1 & 2)
Individual presentation 30%
Assignment - pupil development study 3000 words 70%
Module 2 - Comparative Study (Terms 3 & 4)
Assignment - comparative study 4000 words 100%
Module 3 - Understanding the Professional Role (Terms 5 & 6)
Group Presentation 30%
Assignment - Reflective account and portfolio of evidence 70%
Trainees are based in a Lead School for four days a week for five terms. There is also a six week second school placement in a contrasting environment.
It is preferred that applicants have a degree level of 2:1 or above in the subject they are applying to teach.
Applicants are required to have English and Maths GCSE grade C or above or equivalency before applying.
It is an expectation that all applicants have passed the skills tests prior to attending for interview. If this is not the case applicants must have the skills tests booked and provide evidence at interview.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with children, has a thirst for learning and is showing an insight into current educational practices. We also seek individuals with a strong subject knowledge in their chosen field.
We would like to see evidence of any organisational and communication skills from previous employment as well as a commitment to the programme.
It is desirable to have spent some time in schools to learn more about education in practice. We are also interested in individuals’ other attributes, knowledge or transferable skills related to working with young people or within education eg. youth centre, scout/guide group, church or voluntary organisation.
Trainees are appointed on a fixed term one year contract on a minimum of Unqualified 1.

About the training provider
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) has been a successful Initial Teacher Training provider of salaried route for both secondary and primary trainees since 2002.
RBWM SCITT work in partnership with Bucks New University (BNU) based in High Wycombe. Trainees graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Educational Practice (PG Cert) this is 60 Masters credits equivalent to a third of a Masters.
The RBWM SCITT works with the Windsor Teaching Alliance of First Schools, Middle Schools and Upper Schools.
We also have a history of working with Independent Schools and welcome applications from this sector. There are also places available to work with Schools in other neighbouring Local Authorities.
Since 2009 100% of trainees have gained QTS and 100% have gained employment. In 2017-2018 100% of trainees gained employment in The Royal Borough or surrounding areas.
RBWM SCITT is based within the Early Years and Childcare Advisory Service at Maidenhead Town Hall, giving us excellent access to a wide range of expertise, including Strategic School Leadership, Educational Advisers and Consultants. RBWM Initial Teacher
Applicants will need to demonstrate any relevant experience of working with children or within education.
Applicants will need to show their passion and dedication to entering the teaching profession.
Applicants will need to explain any other relevant or transferable skills and experiences.
Applicants need to show an awareness of current educational practice.
All schools within the consortium are involved in shortlisting, interviewing and selecting the trainees.
Headteachers are looking for the main key areas highlighted in the application section.
Interviews will take place within an Alliance school by a panel of Headteachers and will involve a whole class teaching activity, a presentation and a written task.
Applicants selected for interview will be required to complete the Borough Equal Opportunities and Disclosure proforma.
Applicants successful following interview will be required to undergo an on line Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before going into school.
