Course summary

The school element of the course is based at Cardinal Wiseman in Coventry under the leadership of the Geography department and the Senior Leadership. There will be a number of direct training days at Newman University (approximately 20-25) which is planned and co-ordinated to fully prepare you for the year and for a career in teaching.

You will have a school-based tutor to support you and the MAC course director is also available to support and assist in any way needed.

School placements

The majority of your time will be spent at Cardinal Wiseman with a placement in an alternative setting arranged. The length of this placement will be dependent on your experience and need. As part of MAC with seven other schools it is likely this will be based at one of these. All of these schools are located in Coventry.

About the training provider

Blue Sky is based in the centre of Coventry with links to primary and secondary schools in Coventry and the surrounding areas.

We are part of the Romero Academy made up of seven primary schools and one secondary school. Our lead school, Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Coventry, is judged by OFSTED as Outstanding. Our other schools are all judged by OFSTED as at least GOOD, with three of the schools- including our secondary School Cardinal Wiseman- receiving their judgements this academic year. With our strategic and professional partners, we are committed to offering high standards of training for the teachers of the future.

Our accrediting provider is Newman University, Birmingham. Our previous trainees have been extremely happy with Blue Sky as their provider, saying:

  • ‘Training with Blue Sky is highly tailored to your needs as a new teacher, adapted as the school year advances and your developmental needs arise.’
  • ‘It was a fantastic experience training with Blue Sky. There were many opportunities to observe excellent practitioners.’
    • ‘Completing my teacher training with Blue Sky not only set me up for my NQT year but my whole teaching career.’
  • ‘The support and advice given by Blue Sky was irreplaceable so I’m glad I choose to start my career with them.’
  • ‘Blue Sky really ensured my development from a trainee into a Newly Qualified Teacher. The support received was outstanding from the outset and there was always someone to speak to with concerns or worries.’

International candidates

You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:

  • are an Irish citizen
  • have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
  • have indefinite leave to remain in the UK

If you do not already have the right to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for fee-paying courses (those that you have to pay for) is the Student visa.

To apply for a Student visa, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.

Sponsorship is not available for this course.

If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.

Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

International qualifications

If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.

You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:

  • guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
  • a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)

Training with disabilities and other needs

Blue Sky will endeavour to support any potential trainee with accessibility needs. We would be happy to discuss how we can support anyone to become a qualified teacher.
