An undergraduate degree at class 2:2 or above, or equivalent.
You will normally have a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree awarded by a UK university, or an equivalent higher education qualification. Your degree needs to support the subject knowledge requirements of the National Curriculum for Computing. For exceptional candidates, particularly those with substantial relevant work experience in schools or relevant occupations, we will consider applications from those who hold a 3rd class degree.
Your degree subject should be in computing or a similar subject. Otherwise you’ll need to prove your subject knowledge in some other way.
Grade 4 (C) or above in English and maths, or equivalent qualification.
We’ll consider candidates with pending GCSEs.
We’ll consider candidates who need to take a GCSE equivalency test in English or maths.
As per Government requirements for teacher training courses, we are not able to accept Key Skills, Adult Numeracy and Literacy or Functional Skills as an alternative to GCSE English Language and Mathematics qualification. However, Equivalency tests in English, Mathematics and Science are provided by Manchester Metropolitan University. The School of Teacher Education will accept these equivalency tests for any of its initial teacher education programmes, at undergraduate or postgraduate level. This will be at the discretion of the admissions tutor and only offered if considered appropriate after interview.
Overseas candidates should have Cambridge Proficiency in English or IELTS Band 7 with no less than 6.0 in any element.
Relevant work experience
We recommend that you spend at least two days observing in a UK state secondary school prior to attending an interview.

A personal statement - this plays an important role in the admissions process and successful candidates will demonstrate a good understanding of teaching and learning within a secondary school setting. Candidates may wish to evidence their understanding by drawing on related examples or experiences, such as time spent in schools or other learning settings.
