Candidates will be trained in schools which have finely developed systems in place to nurture development of the whole teacher and equip that trainee teacher with the skills required to meet the professional standards.
Each successful candidate is placed in a school for the majority of the placement and the training will be provided by expert practitioners. A dedicated Professional Studies programme takes place each week in the placement school. In the spring term, there is a six-week second placement in a contrasting school setting usually one of the partnership schools.
Trainees spend the majority of their year in a single school, but also complete a six-week placement in a contrasting school in January and February. All schools that form part of the Plume Community Teaching Partnership are judged at least as ‘Good’ and are within a twenty minute drive of the Lead School, Plume Academy.
The Partnership offers ample opportunity for trainees to gain experience of 11-16 and 11-18 teaching.
Candidates should be a graduate, preferably with a 1st or 2:1 degree, although we are willing to consider applicants with a 2:2 who can demonstrate a real aptitude for teaching.
TES Institute can offer Subject Knowledge Enhancement in shortage subjects which can be acquired before taking up a trainee post, if offered. This would be a pre-requisite, for example, for someone who wished to train as a Maths teacher but had an accountancy degree.
All candidates must have passed English and Maths at GCSE at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
We are looking for innovative trainee teachers with a passion for working with children and a passion for their subject who will create in our pupils an appetite for learning, regardless of their ability. This will usually be demonstrated by previous work experience in schools but might also encompass other settings where working with children from 11-18 has been a consistent aspect of the potential trainee’s life.
Trainees will be paid a salary by the employing school – this will be agreed at interview.

The Plume Community Teaching Partnership consists of a consortium of schools in South Essex, all within a twenty minute drive of the Lead School, Plume Academy in Maldon.

Candidates must have a desire to work with young people, a passion for their subject and a commitment to raising pupil achievement.
As part of our successful ITT programme, candidates will receive excellent training from experienced staff working in association with TES Institute.
The unique blended learning programme combines school based training and online learning materials facilitated by a network of experienced subject specialists. The training experience is also further enhanced through the organization of a number of visits to other educational establishments, such as special schools, primary schools and schools in an urban environment.
We celebrate the quality of teaching and learning which takes place across the partnership. This provides excellent role models from within the teaching staff and opportunities to observe outstanding teaching. The pupils in these schools are a credit to each individual school and enjoy good relationships with their teachers to create a positive environment for learning. Each school aspires to engender an ‘appetite for learning’ within its pupil community, both in the classroom and within the range of extra-curricular activities it provides.
About the accredited body
TES Institute is a large and highly successful provider of Initial Teacher Training.
The Interview process will involve an observation of the candidate teaching a class for 30 minutes with advance notice of the topic, year group and ability of the children that they will be teaching. There will be a written exercise, and a panel interview lasting 30 minutes.
