Course summary

This programme is a high-quality PGCE including QTS (qualified teacher status) with credits towards a Master’s degree.
Trainees will spend a minimum of 120 days in schools and a minimum of 60 days training.
Trainees will be offered full access to the CPD programme for teachers within The Partnership Trust. We offer both a mainstream and SEND route into teaching. When completing your application please make it clear whether you would like to apply for Primary General or Primary General (SEN Specialism). The route you choose will need to be reflected in your personal statement when completing the application.

School placements

The Partnership Trust offers four placements across the year. The first and last of these are in the same “home” school which allows students to see the progress of the same children across an academic year. The middle two placements will be in different key stages so all our students will have experience in KS1, and lower and upper KS2 by the end of the year. If you opt for the SEND specialism, one of the middle placements will be in a special school. You will be working with children who academically are working at KS1 and KS2 equivalencies. Candidates will be expected to provide their own transport to their placements, some of which are in rural locations.

The route you choose will need to be reflected in your personal statement when completing the application. Our work is characterised by excellent teachers taking the lead, working across traditional sector boundaries (primary and special) and across local authorities.
The Partnership Trust runs a wide ranging programme of Continuing Professional Development opportunities including training for newly qualified teachers, events addressing current issues such as curriculum design, leadership development and many aspects of working with children with special educational needs and disabilities. Interview process

Interviews will be conducted by the programme lead as well as senior colleagues from partner schools. Candidates will be expected to take part in a group discussion, give a presentation to the recruitment panel, demonstrate how they would lead a short pupil group activity and undertake a written and numeracy task. Normally only one interview is needed. Interviews will take place online.

International candidates

You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:

  • are an Irish citizen
  • have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
  • have indefinite leave to remain in the UK

If you do not already have the right to study in the UK for the duration of this course, you may need to apply for a Student visa.

To do this, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.

Before you apply for this course, contact us to check Student visa sponsorship is available. If it is, and you get a place on this course, we’ll help you apply for your visa.

Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

International qualifications

If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.

You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:

  • guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
  • a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)

Training with disabilities and other needs

The Partnership Trust’s admissions policy conforms to that of Bath Spa University:- “We value diversity and we recognise that different people bring different ideas, knowledge and culture, and that difference can bring strength, creativity and innovation. We believe that discrimination or exclusion based on individual characteristics and circumstances, such as age; disability; caring or dependency responsibilities; gender or gender identity; marriage and civil partnership status; political opinion; pregnancy and maternity; race, colour, caste, nationality, ethnic or national origin; religion or belief; sexual orientation; socio-economic background; trade union membership status or other distinctions, represents a waste of talent and a denial of opportunity for self-fulfilment. We recognise that patterns of under-representation and differences in outcomes at Bath Spa University can be challenged through positive action programmes. We respect the rights of individuals, including the right to hold different views and beliefs. We will not allow these differences to be manifested in a way that is hostile or degrading to others. We expect commitment and involvement from all our staff, students, partners and providers of goods and services in working towards to achievement of our vision.”
