About the course
This course is a Primary course for EYFS (3-5) Key Stage One and Key Stage Two (5-11) rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in October 2017. Our vision is ‘Making a real difference to children’s life chances.’
As a partnership of schools in East London, we work together to recruit and train excellent teachers, who are inspired and equipped to continue to develop their teaching and leadership skills throughout their careers.
The course aims to:
-To train outstanding teachers who ensure that all pupils in their classrooms make rapid and sustained progress
-To develop a strong workforce for our local schools
-To employ and retain qualified teachers in the local area through outstanding training and tracking of provision through their ITT year and their NQT year.
-Proved access to outstanding quality and professional development for potential teachers
The course ensures that the trainee develops an understanding of the philosophy of education, the theories of learning through to an understanding of how children learn in the early years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The training includes a critical evaluation of theory, research and practice delivered by current practitioners who ensure the course reflects on implications in the classroom at all times.
The course covers all subjects in the curriculum, with an emphasis on pedagogy, planning, teaching, assessment and reflection. We also cover Behaviour, English as an Additional Language and Inclusion.

All applicants who submit an application that meets the ELA SCITT requirements, as set out in the application scrutiny process, will be invited to interview day 1. You will be interviewed by a panel of senior leaders and all details of the interview will be sent to you in advance.
Candidates are encouraged to advise us of any Special Needs prior to the Interview days.
If you are successful at day 1, you will be asked to go to another informal interview at a school that would like to sponsor a trainee teacher. You will have to be successful at both stages in order to get onto the course.
How school placements work
As a partnership of schools, we work together to recruit and train excellent teachers, who are inspired and equipped to continue to develop their teaching and leadership skills throughout their careers.We work with outstanding schools to develop a school led programme to meet the requirements of the Teacher’s Standards. These schools are usually within our Partnership and our Alliance, but we welcome all schools who would like to work with us.
You will have a main placement school and then in the Spring Term (6 weeks) complete a contrast placement in another school, in a different key stage. You will also get opportunities to experience a school outside London for the day, a specialist provision and a Secondary School to look at how pupils progress from KS2 to KS3.
We will select the schools for you based on your experience, interview and commuting distance. Many of our schools have worked with us previously and we have excellent partnerships with them. You may come with a school that may be interested in sponsoring you and this will be asked at interview. The commute is usually between 30 minutes and an hour, sometimes shorter.
Salaried trainees applying for the QTS will be employed and paid for by their sponsor school. This is usually as an unqualified teacher. As such it is expected that you will stay with the school during your NQT year as well. You will be asked to provide your evidence of qualifications and DBS to gain employment and sign a contract that states that you are expected to stay with the school for at least one year.
Financial support isn’t available for this course because it comes with a salary.
If you choose a course without a salary, you may be eligible for financial support while you study, including bursaries, scholarships and loans.
The formal entry requirements are:
GCSE grade C or above in English Language, mathematics and science. Other GCSEs are required to show a good spread of curriculum subjects.
A minimum 2.2 honours degree from a UK University or a recognised equivalent qualification.
We welcome career changers and can organise visits and placements in Primary Schools.
The applicant’s previous education must demonstrate a good foundation of knowledge to become a competent primary teacher. They must be able to communicate clearly and grammatically in spoken and written standard English.
We are looking for applicants who have the passion to become a Primary School Teacher. Applicants who are confident, resilient and willing to learn and work hard. We will support you to develop these skills and learn more.
This year we are also looking for Nursery Nurses or experienced EYFS workers to train you in Primary, with an emphasis on EYFS/ KS1.
We recognise that not all applicants will have worked in schools before, we can support you gain some experience before you make your big decision.
About the training provider
ELASCITT was rated Outstanding in October 2017. Our employment rate is 100%. We have excellent Partnerships across our trust and with other schools in our Teaching Alliance. We also work closely with other schools in East London. Our training is up to date and delivered by Specialist Leaders of Education, most of whom are still teaching. We are a small provider and therefore can provide bespoke programmes when needed.

Training with disabilities and other needs
As a provider we are very aware of supporting our trainees and their individual needs. We provide weekly drop in sessions and regular pupil progress meetings to monitor progress and well being. The School Based Educators, ITT co-ordinators and Professional Tutors are also there to support the trainees and monitor their progress and well being. We include sessions on resilience and well being, both of which are very important to us. We have had Place2be in to run a session and also included mindfulness. We take well being very seriously and offer opportunities to track your own resilience and have signed all of our trainees to individual support and counselling with Education Support.
We cater our training to the needs of our students, this may include dyslexia, so we ensure that the resources are on the portal ready to access before the session and discuss your needs during your training.
