PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
The course is structured with four days each week on school placement (Mon-Thurs) and each Friday at the University of Bedfordshire’s, Bedford Campus.
School placements
We will place you in a school inside our partnership area of Central Bedfordshire and within one hour journey from the Bedford Campus and your term time address.
Entry requirements
Qualifications needed
Applicants must possess, or be working towards achieving a minimum of a 2:2 Honours degree.
All applicants must have GCSE grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. Applicants whose first language is not English and who do not have GCSE grade C/4 English language must have a valid IELTS certificate with an average score of 6.0 (minimum of 5.5 in each area.)
All applicants must successfully pass the NCTL pre course skills test prior to starting the course, you do not need to have passed the tests prior to attending an interview.
Other requirements
All suitable applicants will be interviewed and any offer of a place will be subject to receiving DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and medical clearance.

A Connolly Foundation bursary of £1000 will be available for any trainee who is accepted onto our Redborne School Direct programme. A further £1000 NQT bursary will be granted to the trainee following their successful completion of the Redborne School Direct programme, and if they secure a first teaching post in a Bedfordshire school.
About the training provider
Redborne Upper School and Community College is the Lead School for the Redborne Teaching School Alliance (RTSA), School Direct programme.
Our School Direct programme has been running since 2012 and includes primary and secondary phases. Our partnership of schools includes a large number of lower, middle and upper schools across Central Bedfordshire.

Interview process
The interview process should take approximately six hours and will consist of a visit to Redborne to meet the School Direct team followed by a formal interview process at the University of Bedfordshire’s, Bedford Campus.
