QTS
Qualified teacher status (QTS) allows you to teach in state schools in England and may also allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach in the EU and EEA, though this could change after 2020.
If you’re planning to teach overseas, you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.

About the course
All Alban Federation (AF) trainees are based at one home school through their training with a second school placement taking place in the first half of the Spring term. Trainees are allocated a subject mentor who offer day to day support within the department. Federation training takes place every Wednesday afternoon, with sessions hosted at schools across the partnership. Additional core training is offered at the start of the course to support trainees in the developing teaching skills.
Trainees are assessed continually through the programme with an acknowledgement that individuals develop at different rates. Trainees will receive feedback through formal lesson observations (at least one a week) and receive a formal report at three points through training. There are no essays to write.
AF was graded ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED in its most recent inspection and was ranked in the top 10 of all ITT providers in the Good Teacher Training Guide (2017).
School placements
Alban Federation has over 20 schools in its Secondary partnership so most successful applicants will have the chance to work in a school of their choice. Trainees are normally placed on 11-16 training programmes, following a core training induction in the first half term of the course, and then working in schools for at least 4 days a week from November of each training year. The second placement takes place in the half term immediately after the Christmas break.

About the training provider
Alban Federation (AF) have been training teachers across Hertfordshire since 2004. Both Secondary and Primary training programmes are now offered.
AF was graded as an outstanding provider by OFSTED during the most recent inspection in November 2012 and was rated in the top 10 of teacher training providers in the Good Teacher Training Guide 2017.
Interview process
Applicants will have the opportunity to complete an informal visit to partner schools offering the subject before progressing to a formal selection day in which they will ‘teach’ and complete panel interviews. Successful applicants will then proceed to a final interview at Alban Federation.
Training with disabilities and other needs
Alban Federation and its partner schools are committed to promoting practices that take into account the rights of individuals to be treated with dignity and respect whilst ensuring that the content, structure, delivery and assessment of programmes:
a) enable trainee teachers to meet all the standards for QTS across the age range of training, and
b) ensure that no trainee teacher is recommended for the award of QTS until they have met all of the standards for QTS.
All applicants are subject to the same recruitment processes. Training options and the capacity of schools to manage trainees needs are discussed on a case by case basis.
