About the training provider

The Haberdashers’ Academies Trust South is a family of five primary schools and four secondary schools, all of which are located in the heart of their communities across the London boroughs of Southwark, Lewisham and Bexley.

We have been educating young people in South London since 1876 and have over 15 years’ experience of initial teacher training. Embedded in a rich culture of both tradition and innovation, we draw on our long history of educational excellence while embracing new, forward-thinking ideas.

Our vision for education is built on aspiration and achievement, which is why we provide our staff with the highest levels of support. We have a unique and engaging professional development offer that provides opportunities for collaboration and access to networks for every teacher, no matter their career stage. Each member of our community, staff and students alike, also benefit from the Haberdashers’ Advantage – a unique set of benefits and opportunities that come from our sponsorship by the Haberdashers Company.

Haberdashers’ Academies Trust South is an inclusive employer that strongly values diversity. We welcome applications from members of black and minority ethnic communities, as we are keen to ensure that the teaching workforce is more representative of London’s diverse population.

Interview process

This will determine your suitability to train to teach and assess your literacy and numeracy skills and subject knowledge.

The assessment process will include a presentation, a panel interview, a group task and a short teaching demonstration.

International candidates

You’ll need the right to work in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:

  • are an Irish citizen
  • have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
  • have indefinite leave to remain in the UK

If you do not already have the right to work in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for salaried courses is the Skilled Worker visa.

To apply for a Skilled Worker visa you need to be sponsored by your employer.

Sponsorship is not available for this course.

If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.

Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

International qualifications

If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.

You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:

  • guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
  • a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)

Training with disabilities and other needs

We want to make sure that our training programme is open to everybody. If you have a disability, we will make adjustments wherever reasonably possible in order to enable you to perform to the best of your ability throughout our recruitment process.

If you would like us to do so at the interview stage, please provide details on your application form. This will in no way affect your application.
