QTS
Qualified teacher status (QTS) allows you to teach in state schools in England and may also allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.

Course summary
Every child deserves to be taught by excellent teachers. Bromley Schools’ Collegiate are committed to train and develop of the next generation of career teachers.
Secondary Trainees spend Monday to Friday in their placement school with training taking place each Wednesday afternoon, at the Bromley Schools’ Collegiate training suite. This is based at Hayes. Secondary School, West Common Road, Hayes, Bromley, Kent, BR2 7DB.
The programme has been developed to deepen trainee’s use of research informed practice.
Trainees will receive high quality training from experienced facilitators, many who are drawn from our partnership schools, providing real-life context to the training.
Trainees will gain a strong understanding of how to meet the needs of all pupils through our curriculum based on caring for the whole child.
Right from the start of the course, trainees will be taught to develop critically reflective practice.
Subject Specific expertise will be developed and strengthened through the robust training programme.
Trainees are assessed throughout their placements by experienced leaders with a focus on making them career ready The training course runs from September to July. To meet the ITT criteria trainees must have experience of whole class teaching in two school settings. Placement 2 is arranged for Spring term 1 (up to 6 weeks) January to February.
Qualification achieved is QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) before becoming an ECT (Early Career Teacher)
Languages considered are French and Spanish. The predominant language will be the subject taught at Keystage 5, the second language should be taught to GCSE level.
School placements
Much consideration is given to placements. Each trainee must undertake 2 school placements to gain contrasting experience of teaching. Trainees on the School Direct Salaried programme will be in the school they are employed by. Their contrasting placement school will take place in January and February - Spring term 1. Trainees will be mentored and coached by experienced practitioners. You will be supported by expert practitioners throughout the training course . Placements will be at the schools in the Woolwich PolyMat where possible. If this is not possible, arrangements are made where capacity is available to meet the needs of the trainee.
Entry requirements
Qualifications needed
An undergraduate degree, or equivalent.
Your degree subject should be in modern languages or a similar subject. Otherwise you’ll need to prove your subject knowledge in some other way.
Grade 4 (C) or above in English and maths, or equivalent qualification.
We’ll consider candidates with pending GCSEs.
We’ll consider candidates who need to take a GCSE equivalency test in English or maths.
Bromley Schools’ Collegiate will offer candidates equivalency tests at no cost to them. These must be taken and passed before the start of the training course. If a candidate is awaiting results, they may be asked to take an equivalency test with Bromley Schools’ Collegiate. Third party Equivalency tests will not be accepted. All education Certificates must be verified by the school and the provider before the start of the course. Identification will be asked for in advance as well as UK residency confirmation.
Personal qualities
We welcome applications from candidates who are passionate about their subject and who want to be that teacher who can make a difference to student’s learning.
Other requirements
We will undertake DBS (criminal record checks) and health checks before the start of the course. Candidates will be asked to provide complete CVs which reflects their full work history. Candidates are not expected to have experience in schools before the start of the course.
Salary
Trainees employed by the school will be paid as an unqualified teacher for the duration of the course. This will be advised at interview.

About the accredited body
Bromley Schools’ Collegiate is a well established provider of initial teacher training with over 25 years experience. During this time have trained over 1500 teachers.
At the end of their training, trainees say they feel supported on their journey through their training year and prepared as they become Early Career Teachers (ECT) .
The programme has been developed to deepen trainee’s use of research informed practice.

Interview process
Successful applications will be invited for interview. We try to give as much notice as possible, however this may be within a week of receiving your application. The interview will be to assess your suitability for teaching and Curriculum knowledge for your chosen subject. As part of the selection process, we require you to prepare a short 4 minute presentation to be delivered to the interview panel. Which should be delivered orally without powerpoint or any other electronic aid. After which you will be have a formal interview with senior management / headteacher.
You will also be asked to complete a timed written task which will be assessed as part of the selection process. Please do not worry about the content it is to see your use of grammar etc.
International candidates
You’ll need the right to work in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
- are an Irish citizen
- have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
- have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
If you do not already have the right to work in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for salaried courses is the Skilled Worker visa.
To apply for a Skilled Worker visa you need to be sponsored by your employer.
Sponsorship is not available for this course.
If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.
Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.
