About the course
As a Teach North Mathematics trainee, you will encourage students to think deeply and problem solve more effectively – a great life skill that all universities and employers will appreciate. Alongside your students, you will explore number, algebra, shape and space and statistics.
You will deliver lessons that promote opportunities for students to construct their own learning and discover their own rules, through the use of concrete materials such as counters and pictorial representations to demonstrate and apply concepts to solve abstract and real-life problems. Your classroom will be brimming with discussion, questioning, proving and explaining.
On completion of this programme, you will be awarded a PGCE with QTS and 60 Masters credits in Education from Sheffield Hallam University.
You’ll be delighted to know that we have a strong partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, who are a national centre of education and are recognised for their excellence and innovation in teaching and learning. This partnership creates a collaborative model of training.
School placements
During the programme, you will complete two placements in our alliance schools and academies. The location of these placements is decided by the Teach North team who will consider your home location, mode of transport and the capacity of the school or academy.

Fees and financial support
About the training provider
Teach North offers a School Direct programme that strives to develop, support and celebrate excellent trainee teachers who are well-prepared for the profession.
We are an integral part of a high-performing multi-academy trust, Outwood Grange Academies Trust. We embrace the opportunity to ensure that all children, irrespective of their starting point, receive an excellent education.
We relish the opportunity to be part of the much needed regeneration of the areas we work in. We are serious about the part we have to play in regenerating the areas we serve by placing an outstanding school at the heart of the community.
To do this, we ensure that:
- students are always at the forefront of what we do, so we can help them to reach their potential
- that all our staff strive to be experts in our respective fields
- together, as a trust, we are obsessive about attaining the highest standards, thereby enhancing children’s life-chances.
Quite simply, we want to be known for placing:
Students first; raising standards and transforming lives.
Interview process
If you meet our entry requirements, you will be invited to a remote interview to complete our selection process.
International candidates
You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
- are an Irish citizen
- have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
- have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
If you do not already have the right to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for fee-paying courses (those that you have to pay for) is the Student visa.
To apply for a Student visa, you’ll need to be sponsored by your training provider.
Sponsorship is not available for this course.
If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.
Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

International qualifications
If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.
You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:
- guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
- a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)
Training with disabilities and other needs
We offer disabled access across our family of schools and invite all applicants to discuss their individual needs with us so that we can place you in the most appropriate schools and academies for your training year.
