KMT is an accredited provider of school based teacher training in the South East and across Kent. We welcome trainees from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience – be it recent graduates from university or experienced professionals looking for a change.
At KMT we’ll support you on your journey. You’ll train to teach in one of our partner schools, spending as much time as possible in the classroom with an experienced practitioner as your mentor.
We believe that the most effective way to train to teach is to allow you to spend the maximum time possible in the classroom with an experienced practitioner. You’ll benefit from valuable classroom experience and be able to participate as an active member of the school community from day one.
Throughout your training you’ll be supported and assessed as you progress towards Qualified Teacher Status, often referred to as QTS. Your teaching practice will be observed and you’ll receive guidance and support from your Mentors, Professional Tutors and your KMT hub team.
From the beginning of the year, you will be given a teaching timetable of a maximum of 70%. You will focus on teaching KS3 and KS4 but may also get the opportunity to teach some KS5.
You will be in schools for four days a week where you will be involved in observations, teaching, staff training, parents’ evenings, school meetings, extra-curricular clubs: all the facets of a teacher’s school life. On Thursdays, you will have your pedagogical training with KMT that provides a mixture of specific Subject Studies, looking at aspects of teaching your specialism, and the more general Professional Studies sessions, which have a holistic approach to educational practices.
In addition, to complement Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and if you would like to engage more with educational research, you can opt to register for a Distance Learning PostGraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Leeds Beckett University.
