PGCE with QTS
A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.
It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.
Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

About the course
The TBAP Trust and Teaching School Alliance consists of 11 Alternative Provision Academies throughout England (although this course will be based at one of our London Academies). Our trainees will gain a wealth of experience in teaching learners with additional Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) as well as understanding how to develop their pedagogy accordingly.
Our training provider, The Pimlico-London SCITT is based at their Teaching School, The Future Institute of Education, in the heart of London and offers an academically rigorous and school-led ITT programme. Their SCITT programme was rewarded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and ranked as the third best provider in the country (top in London) in The Good Teacher Training Guide 2017. As a partnership, we believe in the primacy of knowledge and that teacher-led, school based education can transform lives. Our trainee teachers learn to see themselves as the leaders of their pupils, as custodians of the best that has been thought, known, and created, and as a catalyst for innovation and transformation through the valuable knowledge and skills they will impart to those they teach.
We believe that student teachers should be immersed in their host schools for the majority of the time so that they can benefit from the support and guidance of subject experts. Here they benefit from a mentor who will observe their progress weekly and meet with them to discuss their progress against the Teachers’ Standards. During the week our trainees attend SCITT Head office in Central London every Tuesday afternoon in term time for training. In addition, student teachers will gain their PGCE through the Institute of Education at UCL.

How school placements work
This position will be based in one of our London schools. Candidates will be based across one or two of our schools teaching learners aged between 4 and 11.
In Alternative Provision settings, class sizes are small (around 8 learners) and trainees will always have a Teaching Assistant with them for additional support.
Salary will be calculated using the unqualified teachers’ pay scales
Financial support isn’t available for this course because it comes with a salary.
If you choose a course without a salary, you may be eligible for financial support while you study, including bursaries, scholarships and loans.
You must be educated to degree level (2:2 or above) in a subject relevant to your selected course.
You must have GCSE English, Maths and Science at at least grade C (or equivalent)
Candidates must be able to demonstrate an interest in working with learners with additional SEMH needs. As we are offering salaried positions, we expect our trainees to hit the ground running -classroom experience is therefore preferred. Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have experience of dealing with challenging behaviour or have at least completed several observations of teachers dealing with behaviour.
The TBAP team have inclusion and compassion at their hearts and we are looking for trainees who share our vision. Candidates should be passionate about providing the best opportunities for learners who may initially be disillusioned with education.
About the training provider
We provide outstanding education and intervention through our Alternative Provision (AP) Academies, Special Academies and outreach teams who work hard to ensure that every learner reaches their full potential. Our core values of Resilience, Compassion and Innovation are central to our work.
Completing your training within an AP setting represents an excellent opportunity for those with an interest in supporting learners with significant attachment, social, emotional or mental health needs. It’s an environment which many teachers find motivating because they work much more closely with individual students and can have extraordinary impact on the lives of learners which spans far beyond the classroom. Training in an AP setting is challenging yet ultimately rewarding.
TBAP is a large AP MAT with 11 academies throughout England. Our training opportunities will be based at our London academies unless otherwise stated. The Trust also has a successful Teaching School Alliance to support and develop trainees throughout their journey with us. ‘Growing Our Own’ is one of our core beliefs and many of our past trainees have now moved on to leadership positions within the organisation.
