The 5th day will be a Professional Learning day with Hillingdon SCITT, which will be held at Bishop Ramsey CE School (which is where Hillingdon SCITT is based) and will be delivered by highly experienced and skilled practitioners. As part of their Professional Learning, trainees will undertake an Enquiry Based Research Project of their choice.

About the training provider
Bishop Ramsey, as a Lead School, on behalf of its Partner Schools are seeking to recruit people to become Primary and Secondary School Teachers for North West London and beyond. We are looking for people who are not only passionate about education, have an excellent academic background, and are committed to working with children and young people to make a difference in their lives.
Trainees who join Hillingdon SCITT (via Bishop Ramsey) will be fully supported and challenged to become reflective, resilient and resourceful practitioners. All the Partner Primary and Secondary Schools have extensive experience of training teachers and we fully recognise how much vibrancy, enthusiasm and drive they can offer to a school community. The teachers in our Partner Schools are excellent practitioners with exemplary behaviour management skills. They are supportive and eager to share their skills, knowledge and practice with the next generation of teachers.
The course provides a unique opportunity to experience a diverse and contrasting range of teaching and training experiences in at least two schools. Children and young people across the partnership are happy, friendly and well-behaved and are at the heart of everything we do.
Interview process
In conjunction with the Lead School, Hillingdon SCITT will co-ordinate the recruitment process.
The recruitment process will involve between half a day and a full day being spent at one of the Partner Schools, which is likely to be the main placement training school for the duration of the training year.
The recruitment day includes:
- Teaching a lesson or working with a group of students which will be observed by a qualified teacher (applicants will be given the information in advance about the content of the lesson, the duration and the age group that they will be teaching).
- A short presentation (applicants will be given the information prior to the interview to prepare for the presentation).
- English and Maths tests.
- An Interview (the panel will consist of representatives from Hillingdon SCITT and the Partner School)
- There may also be the opportunity to talk to staff and pupils and possibly a tour of the school.
It is a rigorous and thorough process, designed to get the best match of applicant to the places available.
International candidates
You’ll need the right to work in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
- are an Irish citizen
- have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
- have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
If you do not already have the right to work in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for salaried courses is the Skilled Worker visa.
To apply for a Skilled Worker visa you need to be sponsored by your employer.
Sponsorship is not available for this course.
If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.
Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

International qualifications
If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.
You can call Get Into Teaching on 0800 389 2500 for:
- guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
- a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)
Training with disabilities and other needs
Candidates who have disabilities or other needs should contact Hillingdon SCITT prior to their application to discussion their needs and the bespoke support that we can provide for them during their initial training year.
