By studying this employment based programme, you will become a confident, competent and effective teacher with the skills and knowledge to teach within the secondary phase. Applicants for this programme will focus on children aged 11-18 years old.

School Based Training
The majority of your training will take place within the Valley Invicta Teaching School Alliance with Invicta Grammar school. The training programme will be personalised to the individual’s professional needs but will include training on the following areas: teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment, working with parents and the community. All training is closely aligned to support the trainee achieve the Teachers’ Standards.
Candidates will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced outstanding teachers. Support and mentorship will be given by senior teachers.
Although candidates will have a base school, there will be lots of opportunities for cross-school training and will include teaching experience within another school in the Trust.
We are working with Canterbury Christ Church University as an accredited teacher training provider. There will be opportunities to have pedagogical and professional training sessions at the University. The University will support the school in the application and interview process.
Additionally, Canterbury Christ Church University will provide library services, student services, and other support needed, matched to the candidates requirements.
The Secondary Salaried QTS programme is an employment-based route available to high-quality graduates ideally with work experience who will earn a salary whilst they train. The programme runs for one year.
You will be assessed on your practical teaching and your progress in achieving the standards for Qualified Teacher Status by gathering evidence in the form of a portfolio. Successful completion will lead to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

An undergraduate degree at class 2:2 or above, or equivalent.
Grade 4 (C) or above in English and maths, or equivalent qualification.

Welcome to Valley Invicta Teacher Training (VITT).
VITT is part of Valley Invicta Academies Trust (VIAT), which is made up of Ofsted-rated outstanding and good schools, and offers a wealth of experience and diversity.

About the accredited body
Valley Invicta Teacher Training (VITT) works with Canterbury Christ Church University as the registered training provider for the School Direct programme. Training is delivered by highly effective teachers from both the Trust and also from the university.
Canterbury Christ Church University is an outstanding provider of teacher training which offers both School Direct Salaried and School Direct Tuition Fee programmes in both Primary and Secondary age phases.
We are working with Canterbury Christ Church University as an accredited teacher training provider. There will be opportunities to have pedagogical and professional training sessions at the University.
All application forms will be vetted for the following:
1) Applicant meets the academic entry criteria
2) Applicant has written a strong personal statement
3) Applicant has been given a strong reference. This should be an academic reference if the applicant has been in education within the last five years.
The Selection Process
Valley Invicta Teaching School Alliance and Canterbury Christ Church University work together to interview applicants. In order for your application to be considered you should complete a full application and consider your personal statement as being an important part of this process. If you are shortlisted you will be asked to complete written tasks and attend a formal interview.
All applications will be reviewed and then successful applicants shortlisted.
If you are shortlisted you will be invited to attend an interview at the school, during the interview you can expect:
A tour of the school
A teaching task
A formal interview
A subject knowledge related task
Your application will also need to be approved by the relevant University either through the school or during a formal visit to the University. This part of the interview will involve literacy and numeracy tasks to assess your levels.
