School placements

Candidates will undertake two placements in contrasting schools within the Waltham Forest Teaching School Alliance. The allocation of placement schools provides trainees with a varied but equitable experience across the two placements. we work as a collaborative of 8 schools across the borough and work closely to train and support trainee teachers. Weekly professsional studies sessions allow all trainees to regularly network and support each other and to go and experience all of the schools in the Alliance.

Trainees can expect to teach across the 11-18 age range across the two placements.

all schools are in close proximity and are easily accessible by public transport.

Entry requirements

Qualifications needed

A first or second-class UK Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject, or overseas qualification of an equivalent from a recognised higher education institution. UCL does not accept third-class degrees for ITT programmes. The equivalence of all overseas degrees is verified by UCL according to their requirements for international qualifications. This is in addition to any assessments by NARIC. Grade 5 / C or above in English and maths GCSEs UCL does accept iGCSE English Language or Science or Maths. An equivalent can be undertaken www.equivalencytesting.com to at least grade 5. UCL does not accept equivalency tests from any other organisations.

Personal qualities

We are looking for those with a genuine liking for young people who want to make a difference to young lives through their passion, commitment and love of teaching their subject.

Ideally you will have previous experience of working with young people.

Confirmation you have the health and physical capacity to commence training.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate

Interview process

If you are successful at the school interview you will be invited to a second-stage interview at UCL Institute of Education. At your interview day you will take part in a combination of group and individual interviews with members of the programme team, and may also be asked to undertake written or presentation tasks, depending on your subject. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and take a self-guided campus tour.
