The Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship is a nationally-recognised, work-based route into teaching. Training on this route means you will be able to achieve QTS without having to pay tuition fees. You will receive a salary from your school and will be given time for ‘off the job’ training.
Apprentice development is overseen by our outstanding lead school, Paddington Academy in London, with regional training hubs across England from Carlisle to Bournemouth.
Before undertaking the course, you will be required to attend our Summer Institute which will be held between the 5th – 9th July 2021. The Summer Institute is an intensive programme designed to prepare you to hit the ground running in September. Sessions will be a mixture of online sessions and face-to-face contact with the United Teaching team, depending on government guidance.

When you apply to us, you have the option to express a preference in where you would like to be placed if successful. As a national SCITT, we place trainees in a large number of schools across England.
During the assessment process, we will ask you about your flexibility in choice of location.
We endeavour to place you in your first choice of school. If this is not possible we will seek alternatives that work for you.
We always seek to ensure minimum travel times for apprenticeship trainees between home and school.
Once you have secured an offer for your main placement school, you are guaranteed a minimum of 120 days school based experience there. In addition, you will also partake in a 4 week second school placement.
We offer secondary training courses (11-16).
Good set of GCSE results, including English Language GCSE C+/4 and Mathematics GCSE C+ /4
Good set of A level results including A or B grade in subject to be taught. BCC is lowest combination considered (each application is considered on individual merit and exceptions can be made to this if a candidate is exceptional in other areas)
2:1 and above (however all applications are dealt with individually and on merit)

About the training provider
United Teaching is the Initial Teacher Training scheme for United Learning. With over 80 primary and secondary schools nationwide, spanning the state and independent sectors, you can draw upon the expertise of our vast network of teachers and leaders to become the best teacher you can be.
Our bespoke programme is designed to support you during your initial teacher training and beyond. Surrounded by a team of specialist mentors, you will always have someone to turn to throughout your teaching journey.
We offer real teaching exposure in a choice of schools, a mentor system, a support network, professional qualifications, as well as continuous professional development throughout the duration of your career with United Learning.
The course is designed to bring out the best in your teaching skills quickly, professionally, and comprehensively. Being part of United Learning will mean you will also learn how to develop their character and broaden their horizons. This will mean getting experience of school pastoral systems, enrichment opportunities and extra-curricular activities.
Every trainee works to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), but you can also work towards a PGCE with 60 Master’s level credits through our partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London. Goldsmiths have been training teachers since 1904 and are renowned as leaders in the field of teacher training.
If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to attend the first stage of our assessment process, which will be a Skype interview including a teaching task to a panel of two members of the United Teaching team.
If you are successful, you will be shortlisted for the second stage of assessment. This will be an interview with the headteacher or senior leader of your chosen placement school.
