About the course
Trainees learn on the job in a supportive environment with a mentor throughout their training. The majority of the training takes place on the 2 school placements and trainees attend 15 training days at Canterbury Christ Church University. Trainees are assessed through an ongoing system of internal and external evaluation which leads to a final assessment process. Trainees will be provided with a timetable within their subject area and work across all the Key Stages.
School placements
Secondary trainees spend the majority of their time in 1 base school. They spend a 1 month block in a comparative school and complete a shorter placement in a primary school. Primary trainees complete a second placement of 1 month in a different Key Stage or setting and complete a short placement in a secondary school in Key Stage 3.
Interview process
Trainees are interviewed by the individual schools that are looking to train future teachers. Trainees are asked to teach a micro lesson, complete literacy and numeracy tests provided by Canterbury Christ Church University and attend an interview.
