You will be based in your employing school across the academic year. On Fridays you will be released to attend weekly academic and professional lectures which take place at our lead school Challney High School for Boys in Luton.
Classroom Practice will form part of your central training where we will take you through aspects of classroom focused learning that will impact on your practical delivery in school.
Professional Practice sessions are centrally delivered where professional aspects to teaching are taught. Sessions are led by excellent and proven staff from partner schools and a variety of other education experts and will provide an induction into the major dimensions of the education debate and foster a whole school/whole curriculum perspective on the role of the teacher.
Subject Practice strand focuses on learning how to teach subject content to pupils and to improve their subject knowledge, understanding, skills and confidence. Sessions are led by expert practitioners. The format includes workshops, seminars, learning through case studies and practical work. These sessions are run weekly after school.
The PGCE content for trainees who have opted to take the PGCE academic award will be run on the assignment focus areas. These will be useful to all trainees as the learning can be applied to teaching practice in general. Some sessions will be specifically about writing at level 7 and PGCE specific details. Three assignments are set across the year in November, March and May.
During the year you will gain experience is another contrasting school and this will be arranged in conjunction with your base school. Further short placements are arranged to observe transition at primary and sixth form stages.
Honours degree 2:2 or above related to the subject you wish to teach

About the training provider
We are a multi-academy trust currently comprising Cedars Upper School, Dallow Primary School, Denbigh High School, Challney High School for Boys, Challney High School for Girls, Lark Rise Academy, Linslade School, Marston Vale Middle School and Putteridge High School. We are also opening a new secondary school in Luton in September 2018 called the Chiltern Academy.

We also provide School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) through the Chiltern Training Group (CTG), an ‘outstanding’ Initial Teacher Training provider, and professional development and support through the Chiltern Teaching School Alliance (CTSA).
Our interview process is designed to ensure that you have all the qualities that will be needed for us to train you to teach.
The first stage consists of a literacy and numeracy assessment, teaching task with self reflection and a discussion task.
If you are successful at the first stage then there will be a panel interview. At this stage secondary applicants may also sit a subject specific test to assess any need for subject knowledge enhancement.
We may also arrange for you to be interviewed in a school where you could be asked to teach a 20 minute lesson and have a brief panel interview.
