A postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) with qualified teacher status (QTS) will allow you to teach in state schools in England and may allow you to teach in other parts of the UK.

It may also allow you to teach overseas, though you should always check what qualifications are needed in the country you’d like to teach in.

Many PGCE courses include credits that count toward a Master’s degree.

1 year
Date you can apply from
13 October 2020
Date course starts
September 2021

About the course

You will attend training at Leeds Trinity as well as receiving on the job training from teachers and leaders in each placement school. This training will stand you in good stead to be the teacher you’ve always wanted to be.

Assessment is based on written assignments and teaching performance.

Following qualification, you will most likely be offered an opportunity to teach in one of your placement schools and so begin the career of a lifetime!

Interview process

You will be interviewed by a senior leader within one of our primary schools. The interview will be in 2 parts - a short teaching session with a group of children and a formal interview.

This will also give you the opportunity to ask us questions to make sure we are the right course for you!

How school placements work

You will have 2 placements, 1 in a primary school and 1 in an alternative primary school. There are 18 primary schools that offer placements. Your schools will be chosen based on where you live and the characteristics of the schools - we aim to give you as broad an experience as possible.

Stage 1 begins in September and finishes in November. Stage 2 begins in December and runs through to May, incorporating Stage 3.

Full support will be given to you at each placement by an in-school mentor and a Lead Mentor who works across all schools.

The course fees for UK students in 2021 to 2022 are £9,250

You will not have to pay these fees upfront. Eligible UK and EU students can apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of tuition fees from the government.

Financial support

You may also be eligible for a loan while you study – note that you’ll have to apply for undergraduate student finance.

We have a hugely successful Schools Direct Programme, working closely with Leeds Trinity University to provide high quality, authentic and bespoke training alongside teaching experience in a diverse range of Catholic schools across Bradford and Keighley. We grow our own teachers to make a difference to the lives of children in our care. “Training with the CSPTSA has allowed me to experience teaching in amazing schools containing brilliant children. The support I received was outstanding and continuous. Working in a Catholic School provides an extremely supportive network within a family. The support continues from the CSPTSA as an NQT through into an RQT development programme. The CSPTSA give me support and allow me to ask for training in areas I feel I require to improve my career.” Julie McGovern - School Direct Trainee 2017
