This is a School based course where the majority of your training will take part in the school of your choice. You will be trained in a highly supportive and creative environment where you will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to deliver high quality teaching and learning.

Trainees work a full academic year in their host school, and are part of the school community from the start - from the first day of term to the last.
All of our trainees have Wednesday afternoon off timetable to:
Attend a ‘wider context programme’ which is delivered by experts within our schools with sessions varying from behaviour management to Questioning
Take part in experiences at a SEND school, an alternative provision and a local school with a high percentage of EAL pupils (English as an additional language).
To complete research and gather evidence to complete the PGCE assignments.
To network with other Association trainees.
This course leads to QTS, PGCE and Masters Credits.
This course is school led and the majority of the training year
will be in your chosen school.
One day a week will be spent at Nottingham Trent University, for a maximum of twenty eight days.
You will have a six week second placement based on your development needs in the early part of the spring term.

An undergraduate degree, or equivalent.
Your degree subject should be in drama or a similar subject. Otherwise you’ll need to prove your subject knowledge in some other way.
Grade 4 (C) or above in English and maths, or equivalent qualification.
We’ll consider candidates with pending GCSEs.
We’ll consider candidates who need to take a GCSE equivalency test in English or maths.
You want to make a real difference and your enthusiasm is clear.
You can articulate how you have influenced or positively impacted the lives of others.
You know why you want to teach and can demonstrate your teaching skills.
You understand the challenges ahead in your journey to become a teacher.
You know how to grow and learn from making mistakes.

Fees and financial support
The course fees for UK students in 2023 to 2024 are £9,250.
The fee for UK and EU students is £9250.00 which is the standard rate for postgraduate courses.
Trainees are entitled to the same financial support as trainees on other postgraduate teacher training courses
Those from the UK and the EU are eligible for student loans to cover tuition fees and maintenance.
Bursaries are available from the National College for Teaching and Leadership in priority subject areas, this is dependent on your degree level and the subject you wish to teach and the information can be found from the DfE.
Scholarships are available from a number of sources.
About the training provider
Diverse Association for Professional Learning has been successfully running school direct programmes across primary and secondary phases since 2012. We have a number of secondary schools and over thirty five primary schools in the association, these are all quality assured by us and are located in and around Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
We pride ourselves on a personal, tailored approach. We are a small, committed team who get to know you as individuals to support your journey into teaching. The choice of training school is led by you - you select the school for your training year, are interviewed in that school and hold relationships with your future team before your training even starts. We have well established relationships with all of the schools we work with and we collaborate with the understanding that the right choice of school is an essential and important part of the process.
We are proud that some of our original cohort are now mentors for our current trainees. The employment rate for our trainees is high, with over half of each cohort being recruited directly into our partner schools.
Nottingham Institute of Education (NIoE) at NTU is one of the foremost providers of education and training for teachers and other learning and development professionals. Courses and research span all phases of learning; from Early Years, through to adult education.
They have extensive links with over 600 educational settings across the East Midlands. Their latest Ofsted inspection praised these partnerships, recognising the strength of links with local schools and range of specialist placements for trainees, providing access to high-quality training.
These links with partners and the broad range of expertise enables NIoE to develop and support students at every level.
As this course is run in partnership between Diverse Association and Nottingham Trent University, two interviews are required.
The university interview will establish the extent at which you are likely to meet the academic requirements of the programme, your commitment and passion for your chosen subject or phase, and the aptitude you have for teaching.
The Diverse Association interview will take place at the school you have chosen to train in, and involves the three activities below:
Teach a twenty minute lesson
Both parties discuss the outcome of the interview before a place is offered.
You’ll need the right to study in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:
guidance on the UK equivalents of your qualifications
a free statement of comparability once you’ve submitted your application (if we ask you for this)

There are no child care facilities at any of our schools however, many have nurseries close by.
All of the schools are accessible by car, many of the association schools are based near major towns and cities and so can be accessed by public transport.
